Use it all the time, even if I'm not using it on a gig. Actually, I rarely use it on a stage. But I have. It's an absolutely essential feature.

Apart from using it to blend my single instruments various pickups together, I also use it when I want to plug in someone else's instrument. Someone hands me their guitar, or their violin, for example.

I dont have the VG99 anymore, but I remember having a much better tone (also on the stage) with chosen guitars with good pickups, than with the hex-based emulation.

Hex pickup v-guitar emulations do not sound as good as the 'real thing', in an A/B listening test. However, Hex really shines when it comes to audio specifications. Typically, a Strat mid/bridge setting has a signal-to-ratio of about 75dB (heavy playing strength), compared to a v-guitar Strat emulation of around 88dB.  If you go through the HEX>USB>DAW OR analog breakout box re-amping route, you can reach an impressive 100dB dynamic-range using DAW filters.  Does it sound as good as the original pickup? NO, But a 13dB/25dB v-guitar noise-floor improvement should not be overlooked.

Using it with very good results. I like my Lacie Pickups blended as well.

Hi
i'm using vg 99 with normal cable as a pod, the clean is exceptional... the distortion is not big, it looks fake.

connecting an overdrive, preamp, amp simulation, can be a good solution.

who tried?

where should it be placed?
guitar and vg99 or line out or send return?

thanks

Disable internal CAB sim

Use Third party CAB IR sim box on VG-99 Main Output

So having just read this thread I have a question...if I have the guitar output jack with the feed from the gk3 going to my external fx pedals how can i route the output of those pedals back into the vg99 and apply non-cosm effects etc before the main output? If I route it back to the "normal guitar input" it loops itself back to the "normal guitar output" and I can't seem to find an option to route it into the onboard fx. Is there an option I'm missing somewhere?  I can run a separate cable from the mag pickup output of the guitar to the "normal pickup input" and then to the fx stack but it would be nice to just have the one cable!

I keep coming back to this old video but at 7:30 this is the VG-99 direct to the PA with no external effects.

I could get it to sound even better with the Flamma probably since those are more modern cab sims but this shows you can get some raging distorted guitar with the hex pickup and the VG-99 without any external items:

With my SY-1000 I use a Klon Klone in front of the quarter inch input but I could use the FX loop too (but that's the SY-1000, we're talking about the VG-99 here).

Yes the patch is available here for download.  All the other sounds (synths, basses, drums) are the VG-99 too.

GK Devices:  Roland VG-99, Boss GP-10, Boss SY-1000.

So it turns out the solution to my issue was the setting detailed below.
Posting this here in case anyone else has the same thing bothering them:)

Quote from: Brent Flash on August 19, 2009, 01:48:34 PMThis setting is in the GK SETTINGS area and is called GK CONNECTION. The options are AUTO, OFF, or ON.

Using ON will allow you to plug a guitar into the rear GUITAR INPUT and also have a guitar plugged into the 13 pin input and use both guitars at the same time.

Sometimes the answer you seek is buried way down in the bowels of this site. I am happy you found your answer, sorry it took some digging.
