Folks,

Before I resign this to a bitterly remorseful purchase...can i use the FCB1010 as a
Up/Down
CTL 1 thru 5
and use the 2 expression pedals.
(probably other things it can do and Im too stupid too realize I should have bought some FS pedals)

I keep the GM800 on the desk and thought this might work by plugging it in. How wrong was I!
Hoping the hive mind can instruct me how to set it up...at the moment it does random things when plugged in.

Firstly the FCB isn't a waste of money given how cheap they are.  Mine has been in five distinct rigs, schlepped around Europe twice and up-and-down England over 20 years in a gig bag and still works fine.  Now lives in my attic for that day when I will need it again.  Think of it as an investment.

That said MIDI control of the GM-800 is currently a bit of a sore point.  AFAIAA the CTL and EXP assignments are for the control pedal jacks and are not addressable by MIDI.  However ...

Each of the four logical synths in the GM-800 have a comprehensive MIDI spec, and so you can gain control over the 800 for sounds you've created or edited in Zenology and imported into the GM-800.  Until Boss releases a deep editor though, this means you'll need to buy Zenology or have a Roland Cloud subscription.

Deep editing and MIDI addressability of the controllers are both wish list items to Boss, and by all accounts they read and consider the list in their plans for updated firmware.

(If someone has found work around for these, please chip in)
Main rig: Barden Hexacaster and Brian Moore i2.13 controllers
Boss SY1000/Boss GKC-AD/Boss GM-800/Laney LFR112

Other relevant gear: Line 6 Helix LT, Roland GR-33, Axon AX100 MkII
Oberheim Matrix 6R, Supernova IIR, EMu E5000, Apple Mainstage, Apple Logic, MOTU M4

Sound mate, have the Pro and Zenology, but tbh, i dont even have the basics of midi, was hoping for an idiot proof easy option :D

My GM-800 is entirely midi controlled, I don't use any of the surface controls.
In my case the midi control comes from the SY-1000, to use an EXP pedal plugged into the SY-1000, it sends midi cc# on number #80 (#80 by choice).
It is a matter of using the GM-800 Assigns, and using the midi cc# number that your FCB1010 pedal is set to send.
Once you get one Assign sorted, the rest will be easier.
So long as
1: the midi cc# source number matches between the FCB1010 and GM-800 (a different one for each FCB1010 pedal).
2: the midi channel matches between the two units.
3: FCB1010 midi out to GM-800 midi in.

I'm new to this and after reading the thread I'm still unclear.  I have a FCB1010 as well and trying to configure simple program changes to buttons via CH 2 and configure the Expression Pedal B as a master volume for each Scene.  I cannot get the FCB to communicate with the GM-800 at all.

Newbie here so please walk me through it.  I have confirmed that buttons 5 - 10 are set for CH2 on the FCB.

Thanks

Problem is "FCB-1010" represents 20 years of different capability products, must identify your specific ROM  version. then refer to resources that support that ROM  version, or install a different more capable ROM

Elantric - I'm currently using the Behringer chip v2.5.  The UnO chip has been ordered and anxiously awaiting its arrival.

Brent Flash - Thanks!  I wish it were to help and advise...maybe some day!

Elantric, I appreciate the links.  I learned a lot but I don't however see any reference to the GM-800.  I do have the UnO chip on order and waiting for it to arrive.  I think I should wait until I receive the chip and start over.  No matter what I try and configure on the GM-800 and the FCB1010, I can't get the FCB1010 to make any changes on the GM-800.  The FCB works great with the HX Stomp but I have totally removed the HX Stomp to simplify my configuration and only focus on the GM-800.

I'm also wondering about the MidiCaptain from Paint Audio instead of the FCB1010.

Thanks again.

On GM-800, must create Control Assignments,  with SOURCE= your desired MIDI CC#  and TARGET = your desired GM-800 FX Parameter

Each user must build the array of personal Control Assignments they prefer

Review the GM-800 PARAMETER GUIDE , page 10

Its same paradigm for external MIDI CC#  CONTROL Source and FX Target ASSIGNMENTS as other Boss MFX

To debug, Always use a third party MIDI DATA MONITOR , as described here
