Hi,

i use SY-1000 and an old JV-2080 connected via MIDI to add some warm sounds. I think about replacing the JV-2080 by a GM-800.
Program Change and MIDI Volume are sent by SY-1000 to JV-2080, same is planned for GM-800. Has anyone tried this? Any hints?

Thanks for comments!

You can certainly do this - I am doing it right now from my SY-1000 while I type and wait for my GKC-AD to arrive.  After a quick skim of the midi spec, I'm almost completely certain you wouldn't have any problems at all.

The main one is go to 'MIDI Parameters' and set the 'note source' parameter to be 'MIDI'.  It will then be a regular sound module just like your 2080.

But I think you should really consider getting some kind of GK splitter and a GKC-AD so you can trigger it directly as soon as you can afford it.

Two notes on this...  First, the guitar to midi on the GM-800 is much better than the SY-1000.  Second, the GM-800 midi input is restricted to poly, & doesn't allow mono mode, which is required for certain guitar techniques.

If your sole use is pads, you may be fine.  But for anything else, you'd be better off with a Primova unit or a US-20.

You're of course right shawnb.  The 2080 is multitimbral, so you can do one channel per string
