Variax Mags not working with VDI connection

So my JTV89 started crackling and having intermittent sounds while the variax is off. When it's on everything works fine.  This only happens when im using the VDI connection to my helix.

Funny thing is that the problem fixes itself gradually if I keep playing for about 1/2hr. Then its fine all the way until I keep the variax. Same problem happens again if I dont use the guitar for a day, almost like it needs to warm up? Im not sure if its a contact problem or something I sprayed contact spray on the pickup selector and VDI jack, but it didnt solve anything.

Anyone encountered this issue before? any help would be greatly appreciated as this guitar isnt under warranty anymore.
