Doesn't seem to have the foil sleeve.

I found that with the GKC-AD as far from the audio from the audio signals on my pedalboard as possible, a short EBS TRS cable didn't seem to cause me problems.  I've since had a friend make me a 50cm patch cable with gold plated Neutrik connectors and DMX cable.

You can just order the bits and solder, but https://www.designacable.com will make something up specifically for you, they've been having a few similar orders apparently.  Price isn't too bad all considering - the Neutrik connectors aren't cheap.

I am fairly sure that Boss have over specified the cable to encourage people to buy their product which is currently pretty much unavailable off the shelf anywhere else. Has anyone done a proper comparison of different digital cables or identified any differences between foil/braided shield in use in the field.

I'm rather surprised they didn't make short patch cables to connect the conversion box to the GM-800.

Perhaps they thought that, well, if a person is forced to buy a 10 meter cable they might concede to buy the new pickup :)

If you get the patch cable made to Roland specs, it might cost close to a 5 meter version. Money's not the issue. It's the lump of the cable serving no purpose other than connecting 2 devices a foot aparat.

I tested two cables with a GM-800 and both work.

One is a ready-made affair from Amazon.de, the other is custom made from a readily available cable.

Just about any short TRS to TRS cable may work.

Realize Boss specifies using their special double shielded TRS cable to prevent possible radiated EMI from the GM-800 Serial GK cable invading adjacent High Impedance normal guitar inputs on third party effects.

You will know when your TRS cable is not to specification when you hear high frequency Hiss and noise on your normal pickup signal path

I know :)

None of the two subsitute cables induces hum or buzzing and both have aluminum shielding, copper mesh, and drain wires.

The Tisino/Disino cable from Amazon is actually smth that you referred to as "a reasonable pre-made substitute" earlier in the thread. It has blue rather than red plugs but it's the same thing.

The Sommer cable... I called a Roland/Boss dealer, that also does large-scale sound/lights installations, sent them the Boss cable specs and other info obtain on this forum's thread, they made their recommendation and made the cable.

In fact, the new cables appear to have solved the issues with tracking that I had.

Using a rolled up 10-meter long Boss cable near the synth and the AD convertor box seems to be causing interference in itself. The tracking issues and the necessity to use gain 4 setting that I observed previously were gone after connecting with my new short cables.
