Watching Alex Hutchings play, he is so precise in technique. So soft of plectrum.

I am not.

I think the SY camp is where I fit in more so than this new GM.

But the sounds seem to be pretty good.

I'd love to know what the effects are like.

I'm a bit confused... How does a channel that only has 63 subscribers get their hands on the new GM-800?\

He talks a little bit about the tracking in the comments section:

"This is the only one I've ever played, and I thought the tracking was strong, but it's by no means perfect. Part of the reason I liked that lo-fi compressor sound so much is that it kind made tracking errors sound good—there are some real jackpot ones in the video if you watch closely. Otherwise, another advantage of slow attack times is that they help cover up some of the issues as well. I don't think it's a dealbreaker, but you'll probably get the best results if you can make choices and alter your playing based on what you find works. "

Sometimes I feel like I'm missing the obvious in these videos...

In the Alex Hutchings video:

At 6:17 - He plays a GT-1000 Core patch.  Which, as near as I can tell, has nothing to do with the GM-800.  Why is it in the GM-800 video?

At 7:49 - He plays a patch called Auto Arpeggio.  But I cannot find an arpeggiator in the manuals.  Is the arpeggiator in an expansion pack?

Closest I can find in the manual to an arpeggiator is a beat-sync'd short looper, which sounds useful.  But I don't see a way to change the root, e.g., to follow a chord progression.

About arpeggio - you're most probably right - some patches are programmed arpeggiated - I can tell as previous owner of Verselab MV-1 that uses the same Zen Core packs. Many of their sounds  were arpeggiated.
I think the looper can be assigned as FX to the rhythm section. That'll be a fine solution to create rhythmic accompaniment without need of any programming in a DAW...

At 6:17 plugging in the wireless and playing through the GT-1000core shows (without actually saying it) that the GM-800 does not support normal pickups or guitar effects.
so when someone goes to complain about the missing guitar input after buying the GM-800, Boss can say "well, it was shown in the demo video".

Some tones , like in the GR-55, have arpeggio loops baked into the tone, Arpeggio or sequencer is a feature the GM-800 should have but doesn't.
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

ZEN-core will have new features in the near future, mainly in the FX section

....
That's the first video I've seen that makes this product interesting. Boss should have hired this guy, not Alex.

Alex is good.  Leon is good too - he did a couple of good SY-1000 vids.  Followed along his programming on one and use the patch frequently

Good video by Leon. I like the tone browser in tone studio. I think this is going to be a pretty big win for Boss/Roland.

I think so too as long as people go into it knowing it's a guitar synth and not modeler etc.. The 4 parts and rhythm section provides so much flexibility and then something as simple as $10 a month (or the other plans) for the roland cloud zencore system to edit deeper and add more sounds to me is amazing if you need more stuff.

Another gm-800 type video, but no idea on what he's saying..

This sounds like early 90's midi.

Compare that to this for $40:

I was surprised by his choice to demo a sax. Wind instruments need breath control of some kind to sound realistic (this appears to be mapped to an expression wheel in the video you posted).

Yes the extra controller makes a difference, but its not hard to assign a midi foot pedal for such (or to just draw it in a DAW). That said its also the sound quality itself. I don't think id hear the sax in the roland demo and think "Thats a sax".
The 8dio sax Id probably be fooled in most cases.

Gosh, that second one sounds like a saxophone to me!
