Hi
I'm used to use mostly overdirve  or distortion to saturate my real  tube amp like fender vibrolux or twin or marshall 800

on boss gt-100 there are several preamps , i use only fx floorboard , and as usual i get alway bad results

1)
should I play with overdrive and preamp direct mix?
2)
and in fx flooboard preamp direct mix is related only to the speaker or the preamp effect?
3)
last question ,speakers in preamp are active only if i select in the global settings line/phone ? If i select everyhing else ,boss won't use the speakers settings in the preamp right?
4) and most importat , Can I saturate with a boss gt-100 overdrive/distortion a gt-100 preamp ? and how?

about boss gt-100 , can I saturate with an overdrive or distortion a boss preamp ? and how ?

thanks

Read the PDF guides which were developed by users of prior Boss GT units , all tips&tricks still apply to GP-100

placement in the signal chain of the OD/DS, before the preamp.
Also try a compressor, either before or after the OD/DS.

Hi

but is it normal i had to use a patch like fender.syx to hear at least how sounds the neck + middle or middle +bridge pickups on seveal fenders usa ?

and I have just record via usb and reaper just some chords ,simple open chords and they are so dull , muddy , can't have a brigheter sound in the distortion to to distinguish the low E , A , D and so  on,

the Older gt-10 & gt-1000 are really better , brighter and i can distinguish  the notes .. and i have tried several gt-100 , maybe i could try to load an older firmware if i can

and based on youtube

I have used an ibanez prestige jappan 2 humbuckers alnico 5 ,neck position

thanks

I'd be curious about signal path for both units.  That's where you can nail it down more exactly.

Hi all sorry to revive this thread but I figured my issue is close enough to warrant not opening up a new thread. I'm new to 4cm with a GT-100 (hooked up to DSL100HR).

I reconfigured my old patches activating the S/R loop and I get great real Marshall tones and can pepper in my fx no problem very thing sounds great except for one thing. I figured I could do the old tried and tested tubescreamer saturating the amp for leads but no matter how I try the sound isn't good.

I've tried before and after S/R loop, I've tried diff OD models, tried the custom OD model that lets you customise every parameter but every time it just reduces the basic Marshall tone (whether channel 1's clean gain or channel 2's od) to a small sounding fizzy distorted tone whereas if I just placed any ts type pedal in front of the amp it can't sound bad or thin no matter the settings. Other fx running are a light comp first in the chain, S/R loop, preamp off, light noise gate, delay and reverb. Any help or idea is greatly appreciated thanks!

A 100 watt tube amp needs to be up quite loud to appreciate the drive tones,
I recommend something like a power brake/power soak block to reduce the output level to the speaker cabinet, while being able to flex the output tubes with some drive.
Big tubes amps usually need to be loud enough to be peeling paint off the walls to achieve that desirable tube tone, that's why some of the smaller 5~30 watt tube amps are so great.

Hey gumtown thanks for the reply! This isn't actually my home setup it's for work in a club. The master is around 3 o clock and channel volume around 11-12 o clock as there's a loud drummer and keyboard player so the amp is actually really loud already. The tones I get before turning on the OD block are really great, typical fat crunchy Marshall sounds it's just I don't understand why when that od block is turned on it sounds so thin and fizzy

friend...if your amp has send return and a clean and dirty channel...the best method is 4 cables...if the amp is only clean but has send return...4 cables..that's all.. .use the drivers to push..in 4-cable mode after configuring your amp..test drive distortion and everything is fine.
