Another live jam over a a drone. This time a flute with the MRT breath controller. The breath controller takes the boss SY1000 to the next level of expression - I'm officially out of breath and spit now!

*Note the breath controller works on midi channel 7 so re-assign those parameters to expression pedals etc if you don't have a breath controller!

Features Dynamic Synth and VIO guitar

i think people would really enjoy watching this type of performance live, the breath controller / sy-1000 combo is very compelling.

this is the first vio patch i've heard which perked my ears up.

In general, how do you use the breath control with your patches?

That is, how many values are you getting from your controller? Just pressure? And to what parameters do you generally assign it?

Breath controllers are so cool. I've been using one the last week or two (something in the air?).

Been exploring the TEControl with the VG-99 for synth instruments and as a replacement for an expression pedal generally and it really brings things to life.

There are 4 control value outputs set like this so they work well (some outta the box) with soft synths too:
Bite Sensor - CC1 - Modulation
Blow Sensor - CC2 - Breath (Expression)
Tilt Up/Down Sensor - Testing with Pitchbend -- but it's quite difficult to center it at 0.
Tile Left/Right Sensor - Aftertouch (I think it's CC74) -- also quite difficult to return to 0 point

After covid I have enough breathing issues.
That aside I'm impressed and interested.

Great sounds !

I play Country music too, I'm just not sure which country it's from...

Impressive. Reminds me of Peter Gabriel's Last Temptation of Christ soundtrack.
It took my breath away even without a breath controller  :)
Great playing.

I use an MRT breath controller - I had the TEC breath controller which is amazing, it had bite control and head tilt control. They a great for software instruments, however they are flimsy (for live use) and USB only, so I sold it.

With the SY1000 and the Dynamic Synths/VIO Guitar and GR300 guitar techniques work really well, so a breath controller works like an expression pedal. The MRT outputs on CC7 so I just assigned the breath controller to change volumes, filters and some subtle pitching too. This brings a lot more expression to the playing certain sounds. There's loads more you could do with breath controller.

Fantastic sound. I'm going to have to get a breath controller. Thanks for sharing!

if the mrt has curves like the tec please consider posting screenshots of the settings you're using.

on 'rhapsody on a blue sy-1000' was the pitch bend after the initial upwards run performed by bending the string or with a whammy bar?

thanks again for these patches.

Waaahhh I can do fast indian style flute playing with this - zero glitching - Amazing! :D Thank you VERY much!

I'm even using the patch for funky guitar licks - since there is zero glitching - but now instead with this airy floating vibe + the choo-choo sound from trains in cartoons... new funk! ;)

I don't have a breath controller but when I get one it will be even better :)

How does one connect a USB breath controller to the VG99?
Thought the USB on it was only out, had no clue it was also in :D

The MRT has a gain and with an offset setting which acts like the curve on the TEC. Having used both I prefer the MRT as it is more tactile in adjusting things with the two knobs

Re the Rhapsody in Blue bend, it was performed with a regular string bend of a tone and half. I used a guitar with a Fernandez sustainer for that take so the bend didn't die out.

I will have to do a breath controller video at some point soon to demo it with the SY1000

I am at least off the air tanks and back to work for aabout a month now after being ICU bound for over a week back about the second week of October. I am downloading presets in anticipation of my new SY1000 being here via UPS ( going by to pick it up not allowing them to deliver it to the home where my GF and I reside that would be suicide) I have a scientist friend age 89 he turns that next week will take him to lunch and he invented something decades ago that cures pretty much a dozen or so diseases including aids and cancer and last year he treated someone with cancer but they also had COPD and that also went away so he is giving me some next time he has a need to make some for a cancer patient and I can then be the ginny pig a second time since I used another underground product that was sent to me to escape the ICU. Nobody has even heard of these products and here I have both available to me? I am shocked that my life was blessed to be this lucky and have access to things that have been so suppressed from the market.
