My band has just implemented a tablet-based setlist & lyrics setup. We create a setlist and each song has an ID. Tablets are linked via Bluetooth and a footswitch makes sure that each tablet displays the lyrics or chord charts of the song. Apparently, the software is also able to send out midi over Bluetooth.

I know that the Tone Studio app uses Bluetooth over midi but I'm wondering if it's a propriety implementation or whether we can also link in my floor unit to associate a particular patch with a song.

Anyone done any experimentation?

I use songbook plus on my iPad and connect to BT to my GT1000. I just setup the PG in the song on the GTs channel to select the patch I want .

Related to the original question is it possible to send midi from GT-1000 over Bluetooth to something like Ableton live? I would like to send CC messages to Ableton.

I tried to look from BTS and Manuals with no luck. I've read some posts on this forum that it is possible to send midi messages to GT-1000 from OnSong etc. over Bluetooth, but has anyone tested it the other way around with Ableton or some similar program?

The internal GT-1000 Bluetooth MIDI  is very limited in regards to MIDI CC# TRANSMISSION

Limitation is the minimal support to transmit MIDI CC# from GT-1000 on any port ( USB, 5 pin MIDI, BLE)

MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE  is supported

Most Roland/ Boss Guitar MFX have very limited support for transmitting MIDI CC# - nothing like the LINE-6  Helix MIDI COMMAND CENTER  exists on any Boss gear.

Thank you for the information.

My needs for sending CC# is quite simple. I currently have a GT-1000Core and it can handle my needs but I'm starting to run out of footswitches. That's why I'm looking toward the full size GT-1000. For transmitting I guess I'll have to get a long USB-cable or Widi Jack.

Which specific MIDI CC# Do you need for Ableton to respond to

While GT-1000 CONTROL ASSIGNMENTS  can establish GT-1000 FX  to respond to several  external MIDI CC# messages, the other direction of GT-1000 transmitting MIDI CC# is barely documented.  I expect the GT-1000 expression pedal transmits MIDI CC#7

Adding a long USB-cable or Widi Jack is no use.
Consult the GT-1000 Parameter guide , search on "CC#"

To be honest I know very little about MIDI, so it's very likely that I'm using incorrect terms.

But this is an example of how I use Core to launch things in Ableton:

Every song in Core has it's own patch, then I'll assign to PATCH MIDI different CC1# values like:
Song (patch) 1: 1
Song (patch) 2: 2
Song (patch) 3: 3
...
And so on.

Then in Ableton every song has it's own "Scene" and then I'll assign those CC1# values in Ableton Live to launch the correct "Scenes".

With the same idea in Core I'll add in Assign Settings MIDI Assigns to control Master Volume in Ableton by EXP2, activate click by a footswitch, etc.

Core is attached with a USB-cable to the PC.
