GT-100 Synth Effect Issues
« on: December 26, 2016, 03:15:30 PM »
Hi all,

I was hoping to get some good use out of the GT-100 synth effect. Was looking for something like the Digitech Synth Wah and figured that would do the trick. But I haven't got it to sound very good or track very well. Has anyone had good luck with it or is it just not too great? If you've got it to work well, what am I missing?

Some GT-100 pitch tracking effects are mono-phonic (tracks one note/string at a time).
The pitch shifter and harmonist effects are much the same in minimal polyphony.

Thanks gumtown! Yeah, I know they're monophonic. But I'm still not having very good luck with them even when I'm careful to only play one note. I was hoping to use it mostly with my bass. Something like what you see in this video:

Am I missing anything? Or is this effect just not very good?

The synth effect in the GT-100 typically sucks, the GT-10B has a better one, and the GT-6B synth is even better than the 10B's.
The Boss SY-300 is the best at synth type sounds I think you might like.

Thanks Gumtown! That's what I was wondering... not the first time an effect was just kind of "there" on a multi unit.

Had a GT-6 before I jumped to the GT-100 (I have a bass / guitar doubleneck and use the pedal for both). IIRC the synth wasn't too good on the 6 but I didn't use it much at the time (sounds like the B might be much better). Weird to think this particular effect got worse with each new model. Maybe the 100 wasn't the right choice afterall... I like the MIDI beatsynced effects (Trem, delay, slicer), the compressor, the distortions, and the ability to blend a couple chains (I use this mainly to blend wet and dry... why none of the GT boards have a simple wet / dry knob is a mystery to me... volume adjustment during bypass is a little annoying too). The older units had compression but it used an effects slot which was a little annoying since I pretty much wanted it on all the time.

The SY-300 looks amazing, but I'm not sure if it could adequately replace the 300 in the effects areas, and I'm short on pedalboard space. Hrm. And of course it came out like the week after I got a GT-100. I should find one to try. The sounds are awesome.

You might try this. I do this with my guitar and it sounds very synth-like. Use the T-Wah (for filter sweep effect) into the Overtone (it's polyphonic and you can have an octave below and above your original pitch). It sounds very synth-like at times. You could put the T-Wah after the Overtone as well, you just get a different sounding filter sweep.

Thanks memorex! I will certainly give that a try.
