So people, I need help with a set-up problem... So follow me on this. I'm running my guitar into a boss gt-001 amp/effect desktop processor. It has no pedal for on/off etc.. just a global on/off button that shuts the unit down, and I'm running that into a boss sy-300 guitar synthesizer effect unit that does have a on/off button like a normal guitar pedal, and then out from the sy-300 from the main L/R outputs into my JBL studio monitors. All fine and dandy, except when I wanna use the sy-300 by itself, there's no way to shut down the gt-001 since it doesn't have a normal pedal to do that. I tried a A/B/Y amp switch and that doesn't work for the method I wanna do. I wanna be able to use the sy-300 alone, or the gt-001 alone or both together. Can someone suggest something if this is even possible?

Make a User patch with everything (all effects and amps) switched 'off'
and then save the patch to a convenient User patch location..
With everything switched off is as good as a bypass.

another alternative, is to engage the tuner,
not sure on this,
but in bypass mode (not mute) it may send only the dry signal through.

I don't have an SY-300 but do have a GT-001 I keep at home.
Do you mean you want your guitar to go directly from SY-300 into your JBLs without the benefit any tone shaping or preamp? No effects EQ?

Is there a reason or need for the stereo output of the SY-300 specifically?
Is putting the SY-300 output (mono) into the GT-001 and program one of the "Favorite" buttons preset as a bypass with no amp or effects a possible solution perhaps?

Actually me and a friend might have a solution... a Y-cable. This will allow me to run guitar into the input of my ABY switch run output A from ABY switch to gt-001, then run output B with a Y-cable from the output B of the ABY switch to input of the sy-300, and the other end of the Y-cord will be connected to the output of the gt-001.

I believe it's chained as
guitar > GT-001 input > GT-001 L/Mono output > SY-300 input > SY-300 L/R Main Output > amp/speakers

Yes that is how I have it chained, but there's no way to turn off the boss gt-001/bypass it when you just want to use the sy-300 on it's own... because the gt-001 has no pedal on/off function, only a global on/off that shuts power and audio down to it all.

With the guitar signal (500k ohm) connected in parallel with the GT-001 output (1k ohm(ish)), the guitar signal will always end up strangled and toneless.

Is there any particular reason why you want to run the two units in series (GT-001 into the SY-300)?
I think it would be better to add a small stereo mixer for the SY-300 and GT-001 outputs to run in parallel, and plug the guitar to the SY-300 input and the GT-001 input from the SY-300 thru.

Even a small simple DJ type mixer with just a PAN slider would do, you could have GT-001, SY-300, or a mix of both.

Because I wanna be able to add "color" aka effects/amp tones etc.. with synth patches if needed

I believe this will be the best option then, and save the blank/bypass patch in one of your "Favourite" buttons on the GT-001

There is also an expensive option of using an effect pedal switching system, like the Boss ES-8, where you can route the SY-300, Gt-001, and any other pedals to be in which ever chained sequence you desire.

So  the tuner button on the gt-001 says bypass on corner, so i guess that is the bypass function and worked fine

Also went ahead and did the clean patch thing and set it to "A" on my gt-001 but i did add some hall reverb so it wasn't just stale.

On my GR55 I have a patch named ByPASS and just have the patch volume set to 0. Not even sure what patch I started with , works great

Haha yeah that is what I did with the gt-001, named the first patch and saved it to "A" bank and called it BYPASS, everything off but did add some hall reverb for ambience/texture.

So came up with a solution for my problem! I'm going to have a vox tonelab desktop model, boss gt-001, and the boss sy-300 all going into this....

I wanted a way to run all 3 of my effect processors into my JBL studio monitors, or link them together. Came up with a solution... a line mixer... I found one in excellent shape on ebay, behringer 16 channel line mixer. Normally $150 new, got it $60 used. This will allow me to patch all 3 effect processors into the line mixer stereo, so I could use anyone that I want at any given time by just plugging my guitar cord into one of the processors, or I could run each left output of each processor which is the MONO side into the line mixer, and use the right output to connect to each other so if i want all 3 on at once, or shut the middle guy off then i could just mute that middle guy on the line level etc :] so happy, been bugging me and this seems like the only true and best solution for this task! This will allow me to run up to 8 effect processors in stereo if I wanted too, or 16 effect processors MONO. Then use the MAIN OUT L/R on line mixer to my JBL studio monitors.

That is what I suggested, good to see a positive outcome..

True and I overlooked it, my bad lol. I didn't want a normal mixer though with EQ, as I wanna get my EQ from the pedals etc.. so the line mixer seemed to be the best option.
