About this Product
So you went out and purchased a cool Roland GK synth pickup for your guitar only to find that there is no ideal way to attach it to the guitar. Double sided tape doesn't hold it in place, drilling the face of the guitar is unacceptable and worse yet when you go to put the guitar back into its case the GK pickup doesn't fit in with the guitar. This product addresses the issue of having a solid reliable mount for the GK pickup that can instantly be removed or re installed without drilling holes in the guitar. The base portion of this assembly attaches to a mounting ring for humbucker pickups without the need for drilling holes in the guitar or using adhesive mounting tape. The GK pickup is mounted to the saddle portion of the assembly, which features a snap in feature. This allows for the GK pickup to be quickly removed and re-installed while maintaining precise adjustments and alignment. The complete assembly will require NOT INCLUDED (2) M4x10 mounting screws, (2) M4 nuts, (2) small springs. In some cases the base plate may require longer screws than the stock screws holding the pickup ring in place. This item includes both the quick release saddle and the humbucker base mount.

Please note, this model has been tested with the Roland GK2 model on Les Paul style guitars with tall pickup mounting rings. It may not work with other Roland GK units or guitars with shorter pickup mounting rings.  If you have a guitar or GK unit and are not certain that this will work please feel free to contact me. If needed, I may be able to develop a new model to fit your guitar or synth pickup.

I have had a number of inquiries about compatibility with various guitars. This model was designed for guitars with a raised tune-o-matic or tailsstop bridge and standard humbucker pickups with raised mounting rings.  This design will not work with guitars where there are no elevated pickup rings.  Also it may not work on guitars that have low profile bridges where the strings run close to the body.

MK149 whole tone keyboard adaptor
Converts the MK 149 a popular MIDI controller into a Janko system wholetone keyboard. One scale form is good for all keys, cut down practice time x 12 and transpose at will! Try it first on http://improvise.free.fr/beanbut/bean.htm. (http://improvise.free.fr/beanbut/bean.htm.) You will need to bend metal bits inside the MK149, so this operation is not for the faint hearted and is pretty much irreversible.

This model covers one octave. For a 49-key keyboard you will need 4 of these plus one spare key (see my shop for that)

Kind words from a customer:

"There's no doubt in my mind that there's nothing I can't play on this keyboard."

"It's so wonderful and strange to be able to play something in all 12 keys, and to hear it in all 12 keys as well. A week in and I'm playing stuff that took me 3 months to learn on piano"

I ordered the humbucking mount and they said 2 weeks and now it's delayed another week. And I got this cutesy Silicon Valley speak email telling me so.

I think they are like Pied Piper - their stock price is their main product...

Just sayin. Find your local maker society if you need stuff in a timely manner.

Thank you for posting this. I am the designer for the Quick Release GK mount available at Shapeways. Since this was posted I seem to have a steady stream of 3 or 4 purchases a month.  Shapeways is a great service but I don't get a lot of feedback from customers.

A few months ago I finally purchased a 3d printer and have been able to successfully print this model at home. Having direct access to a printer means I have much more flexibility to develop product variations. So I may try to develop a model for a Stratocaster style bridge, at least for the more common 6 screw bridge that seems to be fairly popular.

If anyone has technical questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to let me know.

Chris

I abandoned the project. Also, the shapeways mount was less than optimum.

I found this also. I bought two of the humbucking mounts with the piece that slides in and out. Its not an ideal fit and you have to go a hunting for the proper nuts and bolts to mount the GK on to the sliding piece.

If anyone is interested, I am developing a update to the quick release GK mount kit.  This version attaches directly to the tune-o-matic bridge and would work with guitars that have no pickup rings.

Nice! If you're gonna make one for a GK-2A, I'll want one. I need an excuse to finish rewiring an Epiphone LP of some sort that was given me. Frets are worn in cowboy places, but I reckon I could have a little fun with it if I could VG it and get instant slide tunings. I hate its neck pickup.

What material(s) do you expect to use? I've had good luck with a PLA, printed by a LulzBot at a makerspace where I work, for a part that replaces a snap-fit mounting clip for the Virtual Jeff. I've taken the VJ on & off quite a few times, and the plastic is still holding its shape and snapping in place satisfactorily.

Oh, btw, I noticed your photo shows a guitar with pickup ring. That would be best, if we didn't have to change or remove our pickup rings.

I am experimenting with PLA and PETG.

My original design, the shapeways product at the start of this thread, attaches to the pickup ring.  But recently someone asked if I can design a version for a guitar with P90 pickups.  This new version sits between the tune-o-matic bridge and the support pins.  So the pickup rings are not even involved.

I am already finding that this design can be installed on multiple guitars and you can switch the GK between them with very minor adjustments to the GK pickup height.

Roland GK Mount V2

Now available on Shapeways:

Presenting an update to the Roland GK Pickup Mount - Quick Release Version.  This new version attaches directly to a tune-o-matic bridge and  presents a few advantages over the prevoius pickup mounted design:
No pickup mounting rings are needed for attachment
The height should be consisent from one guitar to the next.
This pickup clip is compatible with the first generation GK1 pickups.
Please note that this quick release mounting clip is not compatable with the previous version.
