I think I have figured out how to make a simple octave up guitar sound:
All OSC's on sine wave, pitch at +12 on each.

I want the guitar sound to be removed and just have the octave up sound to be heard.  But when I do that by setting the return
level in the final mix to 0, the octave up sound gets really weak.  How can I get the octave up sound to be the same volume level
as the original guitar signal?

I *did* add a fat compressor to do that and it seems to work, but just wondering if there is just way to do with a level adjustment somewhere.

Congratulations on getting started with your first patch!

There are a number of placed to do level adjustments.

  • Each OSC has a level adjustment - On the filter/amp page the "level" adjustment sets the level for each of the OSCs.  You can use these to boost the level of the signal.  If you want to boost your octave effect without using the compressor effect, you can do it with these adjustments.
  • The OSC Mixer has level adjustments - I think of these as attenuators.
  • The Effects often have level adjustments - as you found out with the compressor.
  • The Thru/Rtn - sets level for the direct guitar signal and the return signal if you have an outboard effect in the loop.
  • The output mixer - mixes the levels of the synth (OSC + effects) and the return/Thru
  • The sub output - This can also add significant output level.
