For ear buds, I like the Skull Candy Titans for around $40. They have a nice flat response compared with most others in that price range. I use them as IEMs onstage :)

Tried to wrap my head around android devices but I just couldn't match them with the availability of music apps for iOS.  Don't get me wrong, Android gets a lot of things right that Apple didn't, but the sheer number and quality of iOS softsynths blows Android out of the water.  The mention that you can run Ubuntu on a Nexus 10 has me intrigued,  though.

At this hour its still a  toy as latency is too high for serious use, and not comparable to the iPad offerings.

Android Audio and MIDI Interfaces must be USB Class Compliant and Android device must have a USB OTG Host port adapter

I have a post showing $11 USB MIDI adapter working on my Galaxy Note2
