Hello All, I just purchased a SY 300 for use with my bass guitar. I have the input set for bass, and the output from the main set to go into our mixer board. When I turn the power I get no sound at all through it. With sound on you are using the patches, should this unit have a bypass mode for just getting straight bass with no effects

Thanks
nick

On SY-300 , There is no true bypass

And unlike the GR-55 - AFAIK, there is no  "Bass Mode" on SY-300

( that might be your problem?

  SY-300 manual

Observe no mention of a "Bass Mode"

You must have the SY-300 powered "on" to make a sound and have signal emerge from the SY-300 Output jack

Just press the "on/off" switch on far left should give you a clean "non-synth" output

If that does not work - - save any SY-300 User created patches and  perform a SY-300 System reset

So I basically have to set a preset to clean to get my original bass tone ?

Also make sure you are not using the Sub outs instead of the primary outs.

And connecting your instrument into the SY-300 Input jack
As a test   - Try setting the Tuner mode for Bypass - not Mute

"bass mode" is mentioned under input sensitivity on page 13.

But it is strange that you're not getting an output signal.

As RHC advises take a look at the signal path. For example look at the patch level towards the end of the (chain output mixer)and make sure that's turned up for synth level and return level.

There's also an oscillator mixer with Channel A&B oscillator levels, and a return and direct level which on the screen is in the thru/ rtn icon.

But it sure seems unlikelythat the settings would be messed up on every patch.

Are you getting sound through the headphone output?

Another option would be to call the Roland Support Center and they may be able to walk you through step by step.

I have the unit powered on from the switch in the rear of the unit, I power the Left Footswitch off, I have the input set for bass, the bass plugged into the input, the cable coming out of the main / mono, I can select all of the patches and play with the left footswitch / powered on, when I power the left footswitch off ( Leaving the unit powered up ) I get no sound at all. So I will try a reset this evening and see what happens, it wont be very useful to me if I cant take it out of the chain .....

Did you check the assignment for that on off switch? Check page 8 of the owner's manual (not the parameter guide)which describes the different ways that  switch can be assigned.

Also you have to make sure that the direct level is turned up throughout the signal chain.

Thank You, I will give that and the factory reset a try.... It was supposed to be a new unit, however there are some programs in the user bank so it may have been a demo

If a demo previous users could have created many problems, such as global levels shut off. Too much to chase down. A factory reset would fix all that.

Factory Reset fixed the problem, Now I am gonna keep it !! :D
