One went for £120 last week in the UK.

I would recommend a GR33/GR30 or GR-09. The GR20 is not very good compared to any of the others. Good Luck!

Nothing to mess about with on the GR20

Use Ebay advanced search and "Completed Listings" for an estimate of current going rate for used GR-33.

Ive seen these go with a GK pickup  for as low as $300

Heres a Roland GR-33  with GK-2A currently at $225

Funny thing about supply and demand, so many variables!
Before getting my GR-55 in Nov 2012 I had found a GR-33 on my local craigslist for $190.00.  Cause I didn't do my research, realized it wasn't designed to respond to Bass frequencies which is why I wanted a synth for my Godin 5 string SA in the first place.
Took it down to the local Long and McQuade (huge Canadian chain) and they wound't give me squat for a trade-in on a GR-55.  Said it was two gens away from the GR-55 and that the GR-20 was more recent.  Couldn't figure why a GR-20 would be more valuable in the market since I believe it's a stripped down GR-33 or GR-30, right-it anything about a GR-20 an improvement over a GR-33?
Ended up selling the GR-33 at a 10 buck loss back on craigslist cause NOBODY in the whole province of BC Canada wanted it.
So when I see GR-20 or GR-33's selling on eBay for $250-$300 or even more I shake my head.
Same thing with a used VG-88 at Long & McQuade; they could only get $195 for it (no pickup included) and it wasn't even a holiday sale!
eBay bidders typically get these up to over $300 USD
Sellers greed + Buyers panic = ludicrous prices, often in eBuy!
Good luck and just be patient for one under $200 cause I firmly believe that's all they're worth at this point.

you say 2 gens from gr55, i was under the impression the gr33 was one before the 55 purely based on highest value numbers.
so what is the gr chronological history?
i am in the uk but you guys in the states have so much more choice than we do.

cheers for replies btw

Roland does not use typical numbering systems.

From my memory it went like this for the Roland 13 pin GK guitar Synths

1987 Roland GR-50

1989 Roland GR-1

1993 Roland GR-09

1995 Roland GR-30

1999 Roland GR-33

2003 Roland GR-20

2011 Roland GR-55

Google each of the above and you may see some have more features, while a newer version gets "dumbed down"

The GR-20 was very dumbed down - but it also means there is less to go wrong.

But myself - given a choice between GR-33 and GR-20, I'd much rather have a GR-33.

i still have a GR-30, and despite its basic interface, it still yields two PCM synth engines, and a programmable arpeggiator - all missing from the "newer" GR-20

HAVE TO AGREE WITH ELANTRIC, FOR MY MONEY GR33 MUCH BETTER THEN GR20. BUT NOT NEARLY A GR55. I DO MISS THE ARPEGIATER THOUGH.

the more i research and review products the more i want a gr 55, think i will bit the dust and slap the majority of the cost no the never never, for everthing else there's mastercard. i like the idea of the alt tunings and having several sounds on the same patch and from what i see the gr33 does not do this, am i correct?
cheers
