On the VG-8 you could adjust the volume level and then do a WRITE that preserved that new level.

On the VG-99, the Patch Level Knob seems to be useful only in real time. You do a WRITE but as soon as you leave the patch, it goes back to the original level. I've been going into the amp settings to adjust the volume, but things get really complicated with the Poly patches.

The manual doesn't address the issue of saving the change. Is there a way to permanently adjust the Patch Level with the Patch Level Knob?

(It's and issue now because I've just added about 40 downloaded patches and am working on fitting them in volume-wise with the older patches.)

Read Page 8 and Assign Hold impact on Patch level

QuoteHere's a practical example of how you might use Assign Hold: Say you
have an optional expression pedal connected to the VG-99's rear-panel
EXP PEDAL jack, and you have it assigned to control foot volume in all
your patches. When Assign Hold is on, the value set by the pedal's current
position—which dictates the foot volume level in the patch—will carry over
when a new patch is selected, eliminating a potentially drastic change in
volume when the patches are switched.
When Assign Hold is off and a new patch is selected, the pedal's current
position is ignored, and the foot volume level is set according to the value
stored in the patch.

Since I'm not using a foot pedal, I can just turn Assign Hold OFF and my patch level settings are saved? That seems to be working when I now return to the patches where I've brought down the level.

What control is your "GK Volume" assigned to?
If set to "Patch Level", it may over-ride the save patch Level each time you switch the VG-99 to another patch.
