Using Hold with Patch Changes

Is it possible to use Hold 3 holding 2 strings' sound, change a patch, and use the new patch to play over the held sounds from the previous patch? This was a great feature of my GI 10, and I don't have a GR20 to test this.
If it doesn't work, what happens if you are holding notes and you change to a different preset? Does the held notes stop? Or is there a gap of silence followed by the held notes with the new sound?

I figured it out. If you hold a sound, and change the patch, the hold ends. :/

That sounds about right,
the synth engine pretty much resets with each patch change.
