Good news.
Please share your musical experiences with it, with the brand new A14 processor it seems like a good unit to make music.

Yeah, I think it will turn out to be a very popular device for making music.

When you say 'make music' do you mean live looping and sounds or also using Garageband to record your songs (I am an Ableton Live user)? Got some questions on it (excuse my ignorance) :

How can you power the iPad with a single USB-C, is that via the Hub?
Does any Sound Card will do or there is a compatible list?
Do you use the iPad as a sound bank - multieffect ?
Are you using a 64GB or 256GB model? What is your free space available?

Thanks
Pasha

Hi Pasha,

I'm quite new to doing music on the iPad, and have just been using it as a looper using Quantiloop. Haven't tried Garageband out yet. At the moment I am using a usb-c to usb-a adapter with a powered usb hub. It does not power the iPad, but there are several usb hubs available that will also charge the iPad (see post above). As far as audio interfaces, there are many that will work:

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/best/ipad_interfaces

If I had to give a recommendation it would be the Focusrite Scarlett or Motu M2/M4 interfaces.  I haven't yet checked out guitar effect processing on the iPad other than the Eventide Blackhole reverb. I'm using it mainly for synths and looping.  I'm using the 64 GB model.  I have all iPad stock apps installed and these music apps: Roxsyn, Garageband, Quantiloop Pro, Eventide Blackhole, Audiobus 3, Loopy HD, Synthmaster One, Synth One, Model D, Waldorf Nave, Zenbeats, Aparillo, Scythe, and Factory Synth. I have 44.3 GB available.

Wow a lot of info! Thanks :-) So when you say synths do you have a GK3 plus (VG99, SY1K or other) in between to have Gtr - to - MIDI and play the Ipad stuff?  Thanks so much sorry for 3rd degree but I am intrigued.

Fishman Tripleplay Connect.  Also running midi in/outs of SY-1000 with UM-One cable to the usb hub for get everything in sync. I run the stereo outs from SY-1000 into line inputs 1 and 2 of the Focusrite 2i2.

Great Setup thank you!  :)

I have the Air that the new one replaces. Smooth and clean for audio and even video production. Only true complaint is haviing to chase files with a butterfly net to work on them. Job's "Sandbox" was one of his dumbest ideas ever.

iOS is a valid and wonderfully portable production environment..

In the past week - I  recently acquired a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9" 512GB which is using IOS14

Compared to my prior iPads - using IOS14 on this latest iPad Pro with USB-C and a Kingston Nucleum Powered Hub and a Satechi Bluetooth Mouse
https://www.engadget.com/ipados-microsoft-office-trackpad-update-081703398.html

and having access to the  IOS14 "FILES" app  = EUREKA  - my creative efforts no longer fall into the abyss and never to be found again  - my big complaint of prior IOS versions.
https://9to5mac.com/2020/08/30/comment-the-files-app-is-one-of-my-most-relied-upon-ios-apps/
Still testing my DAW apps ( Auria , Cubasis)  but these latest iPads running IOS 14 are superior to prior generations in significant ways.

But if you have an older iPad  - avoid IOS14 as it will make you music apps more sluggish/ higher latency on the older iPad processors

this may spare you from repair bills

Great to hear! A real user-accessible file system will make iPads much better to work with.

According to the audiobus forum (the best IOS music source that i know) all the music apps are mono thread/core so the new  iPad Air with One of the best single core performance is very exciting.
Multicore support will start apparently in IOS14 but that will take years.

I'm running IOS 14.2 beta currently.  I'd like to get a proper interface to test these things but am unsure as to what to get.

I use the line6 Sonic Port and vx and I am very satisfied, 24 bit, small, proper guitar input, aux in, stereo out and free mobile POD guitar App.
There are other solutions more complete But also bigger.

big list of USB Class Compliant Audio Interfaces

IMHO regardless which audio interface you use ,  you need a Powered USB-C Hub

Independent testing reveals the Kingston Nucleum remains drop out free and best model for Audio creator use
