What are Scenes?
A Scene is a combination of models that can be turned on or off with a single footswitch. When the footswitch assigned to that scene is pressed, multiple models included in that scene will turn on or off depending on how they are assigned. To set and edit scenes for a footswitch, go to the the Hardware Assign page and tap Toggle/Hold/Scene. Here you can choose models assigned to that scene and whether they turn on or off when the scene is activated.

And Yes - Helix has deeper and more of everything - control, effects amp models, FX Parameters -   - but that does not stop the Headrush from delivering what I need most at my gigs

FWIW - in my arsenal  - the best external expression pedal for Headrush is the M-Audio EX-P
(which makes sense - since InMusic Owns both Headrush and M-Audio)
https://m-audio.com/products/view/ex-p

flip it over and set the Mode switch to "OTHER"
This pedal provides linear response, 1/2 way travel on EX-P pedal corresponds to 50% level of assigned Headrush parameter.

By Contrast  - the Headrush with Boss EV-5 as external expression pedal had reduced effective range,  1/2 way travel on EV-5 pedal corresponds to 20% level of assigned Headrush parameter.

FWIW - here is a EX-P schematic

To load a truncated IR, select IR 1024 instead of the normal IR setting when adding an IR to a rig.
• Added the ability to enable or disable confirmation messages that appear while changing your rig.
To enable or disable these messages, enter the Global Settings screen and set Reminders >
Confirm Unsaved to On (enabled) or Off (disabled).
• Added Side Comp effect to the Dynamics/EQ model category. This is a side-chain compressor effect,
which uses the HeadRush Pedalboard's effects return as the side-chain input.
Note: When this effect is in your signal chain, the FX Loop will be disabled.
• Minor bug fixes and DSP optimizations.

Firmware Version 1.0.1
• Enabled USB audio recording and reamping features.
Important Note for Windows Users: Visit headrushfx.com/support and download and install the
latest Windows driver before using the USB Audio feature.
• Minor bug fixes.

My Headrush USB has been rock solid - using a Windows 8.1 laptop ( with the Headrush Win ASIO Audio Driver) for recording) or using a Macbook pro

What I do is power up the Win8.1 computer 1st, then powered up Headrush, then connect to computer via USB 2.0 cable

https://headrushfx.com/kb/article/2304

Then I enable the USB MODE I desire here

And if you are just loading patches - Turn OFF the USB AUDIO when NOT Recording

and ENABLE USB TRANSFER - which allows Headrush to act like a USB storage drive

https://headrushfx.com/kb/article/2344

IMPORTANT - During USB TRANSFER MODE, Since the Headrush shows up as a USB Drive on your Windows computer, upon completion of all data transfers (patches, IRs, etc) - you MUST EJECT the Headrush drive - or power down the computer 1st - then power down the Headrush, then remove the USB cable[/b]

Recording

https://www.headrushfx.com/kb/article/2338

When the HeadRush Gigboard's USB port is connected to your computer, you can select and use the HeadRush
Gigboard as a 24-bit audio interface, enabling you to play audio through it or to send its audio signal to the
computer. It can use sample rates of 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz.

Important Note for Windows Users: Before connecting the HeadRush Gigboard to your computer, download
the necessary ASIO drivers from headrushfx.com/support and install them.

To use the HeadRush Gigboard as an audio interface with your computer, open your computer's Control
Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac OS), open its sound/audio settings, and select HeadRush
Gigboard as the device for recording/input and/or for playback/output.

The HeadRush Gigboard can send four separate audio signal channels to your computer. Before recording the
HeadRush Gigboard's audio signal into your digital audio workstation (DAW), select the channel/channels you
want to record:

1: the left channel of the master outputs with all active effects applied.
2: the right channel of the master outputs with all active effects applied.
3: a mono channel of the guitar input with no effects applied.
4: identical audio signal to 3.

The HeadRush Gigboard can receive four separate audio signal channels from your computer. The channels are
named and routed as follows:
1: the left channel of your computer's output audio signal, which will be sent directly out of the HeadRush
Gigboard's master outputs and phones output.
2: the right channel of your computer's output audio signal, which will be sent directly out of the HeadRush
Gigboard's master outputs and phones output.
3: a mono channel of your computer's audio signal, which will be sent back through the HeadRush Gigboard
(see Reamping below).
4: not used in this scenario.
Important: Remember to set your DAW's master outputs to be sent to 1/2.

Reamping

Reamping is a process that adds the tone coloration of an amp to a pre-recorded audio signal—in this case,
sending audio from your DAW through the HeadRush Gigboard and then recording it back into your DAW. This is
useful for saving time because you can change the sound of an already-recorded guitar track without having to
manually play the same part again.
To use the HeadRush Gigboard to reamp an audio signal:
1. In your DAW, make sure HeadRush Gigboard is selected as your audio interface for both recording/input
and playback/output.
2. Assign the output of the desired track to 3.
3. On the HeadRush Gigboard, tap the  button in the upper-right corner of the screen, and tap Global Settings.
4. In the Global Settings screen, tap Reamp next to USB Mode.
Also, make sure the Sample Rate is set to the same sample rate as the one in your DAW. To change the
Sample Rate, set USB Audio to Off first, select the correct sample rate, set USB Audio to On again, and restart
your DAW.
5. In your DAW again, create a new audio track and assign its input. For a stereo input signal, select 1/2. For a
mono input signal, select 1.
6. Locate the point in your track where you want to start reamping.
7. On the HeadRush Gigboard, select the rig, models, or other parameters to achieve the sound you want.
8. In your DAW, start audio recording. The track you want to reamp will be sent through the HeadRush Gigboard
and recorded into the audio track you created earlier.

It's too bad CaptainT got rid of the board as he experienced a DSP limit while creating a rig. Only if he would have known at the time that all he would have had to do was replace the 2048 IR with a 1024, and would have had more DSP to work with. Sounds like he enjoyed every bit of that board....wonder if he was ever informed...

Headrush with firmware 2.0, when. I engage The Looper Mode the bottom row footswitches (left to right) say:

START RECORD INSERT PEEL MUTE TEMPO

To initiate a new recording I press the "RECORD" footswitch (The wide color bar above the "RECORD" oled label turns red, and the "START" oled changes to say "STOP"

IMPORTANT - To Stop recording and keep it - do not press STOP Footswitch

Instead press "RECORD" footswitch again , and now the recorded loop audio will commence playback, the "RECORD" oled will now say "OVERDUB", and the wide color bar turns yellow

The footswitch on far left can be used to toggle the Loop audio "STOP" or "START"

IF you press "STOP" the loop stops playback

IF you press "START" the prior recorded loop (using the steps above) will start playback

Strange they never mention the function of the "START or "STOP" foot switch in the Looper Instructions in the Headrush 2.0 Manual

Be sure the "MIX" and FDBK"(Feedback) settings match the LCD screen above

If Looper "MIX" is set to 100% - you will kill / mute the normal output sound

How to Reset  / Restore the Headrush

Factory Reset: Hold the 2 far right buttons down
(#6 top row & #12 bottom row) while powering ON

How do I restore the factory presets?
You can restore your factory presets by holding footswitch 11+12 (the two right footswitches on the bottom row) while powering on the HeadRush pedalboard. Keep holding these two switches until you see "Reverting..." displayed on the color LCD touchscreen.

Enable "CC" auto translate from Spanish to English on video above

Yes - Headrush (big board - no experience with Gigboard) has the best internal  Headphone amp of all my modelers

But I will point out in an A/B test of Beyer DT880 (250 ohms) vs ATH-M50X (32 ohms)  - the ATH-M50X sound much better  -

I've been working on a new side project for the last couple of weeks, and have just released the first alpha version to the public.

IR workshop is a free Windows application (7,8,10, 64-bit) for mixing, merging, converting, equalizing, stereo-spatializing and mangling impulse responses in every way I could think of.

Features:
Live preview of your impulse response with ASIO support
Mix, pan and filter any number of impulse responses
Convert between samplerates
Truncate files with minimum loss of quality
Multiple options for frequency and phase response, including:
Minimum Phase Transform
Frequency response smoothing and exciting
Apply randomization to frequency response
"Skew" the frequency response to simulate smaller/larger resonance frequency
High and Low-pass filtering
6 Band parametric equalizer
Stereo enhancement effects
...and many more
The application can be downloaded from Github at: https://github.com/ValdemarOrn/IRWorkshop
(If you want to give it a try, please be sure to read the instructions on the page on how to download and run the program)

There is a (possibly incomprehensible :))

https://github.com/ValdemarOrn/IRWorkshop/blob/master/Guide/Readme.md

user guide available which tries to explain all the features and sliders and what they do.

For basic operations like mixing and converting between samplerates, the software should be fairly straight forward. However, it can do much more, and to illustrate that I've used it to create a collection of completely synthetic impulse responses. These IRs were essentially made from thin air, using only IR Workshop. The collection contains both mono and stereo .wav files at 44.1Khz and 48Khz samplerates, with 256, 512, 1024 and 2048 sample length IRs included.

The reason I made this was to show off the capabilities of the software and it's ability to re-shape and sculpt the response of speaker cabinets. However, I ended up generating several IRs which sounded quite pleasant, so I thought I'd release them as an extra bonus.

Download Synthetic Cabinets on Github (Synthetic_Cabinets.zip)
https://github.com/ValdemarOrn/IRWorkshop/releases

The software is in very early alpha stages, but has been tested on a handful of machines and generally runs without problems, but do keep in mind that this is a very early release :)

------

I'd also like to pimp out my other projects; some of you may have seen the ADA MP-2 editor I built earlier this year. I've also built quite a few VST plugins, including an algorithmic reverb plugin, and a Randall RG-100 amp simulator

Check it out - http://valdemarorn.github.io/AudioProjects.html

The request to have multiple FX assigned to a single footswitch has been brought up here several times.

I want to point out that unlike the Helix, the Gigboard can have switches assigned to scenes and other switches assigned to individual blocks. Scenes aren't a mode you are forced to switch in and out of completely - you can have scenes assigned to any switch and another switch can be an individual block on/off.

Might not address every scenario for every player, especially as there are only 4 onboard switches which leads to what Choptones does - the left two switches are assigned to scenes and the right two assigned to stomps, but this is certainly worth pointing out. I didn't understand this until I started deconstructing the Choptones presets and I realized - wait, this will let me assign multiple fx to a single switch and other switches can be individual block on/off.

http://headrushfans.com/Thread-Using-Bias-Irs-into-your-gigboard

For people owning BIAS there is a way to capture and get Bias Irs.
Of course only if you have bought Bias i think it's legit to use the IRs elsewhere.

You have first to import a sine sweep into your daw and process it thru the cab only.
Here : https://www.audiocheck.net/download.php?filename=Audio/audiocheck.net_hdsweep_1Hz_48000Hz_-3dBFS_30s.wav

Then export the result. You have to export a little bit of silence after the record.

Now get voxengo deconvolver here : https://www.voxengo.com/product/deconvolver/

Open and load as source the sine sweep used into your daw.

Load into "files to process" the result, check the MP transform and Process.

The result will be the IR, you can now load it into your gigboard.

How do you know the master at MAX is unity? I've tried looking into this and found no documentation on that for the HR. If this really is true then I guess I dont have an issue because with the master at MAX it did get fairly loud. Just not as loud and robust as direct into the Quilter. Maybe that's just the nature of modeling though?

1. Plug a guitar directly into a mixer and note the level when you play
2. Plug a guitar into the Headrush then into the mixer and play the same thing
3. Adjust Master Volume until the level matches

For me it's when the Volume is at MAX on a completely EMPTY Rig with the outputs set to AMP. The level is identical.

The more time you spend with HeadRush (or any top-tier modeler), the more you'll learn.
Getting the desired result will be quicker/easier.
What's really cool (IMO) is that any techniques you learn can be applied to any of the modelers.
Even if you were to switch to the Axe-FX III in the future, what you've learned is directly applicable.

Another simple thing:
There's not a lot above ~7.5kHz coming out of a real guitar cab.
If you're hearing significant signal above 7.5kHz (too much top end), it'll sound artificial.
You can use a low-pass filter to remove these high frequencies.
This can be done with the HICUT parameter in the Cab/IR Block... or you can add a Para EQ (post Cab).
I've been using the HICUT parameter in the IR Cab Block (to conserve processing).

If you have a chance to use multiple modelers, you'll learn different things.
ie: The Axe-FX III has much deeper editing than other modelers.
Using the Axe-FX's more advanced parameters got me thinking about speaker compression.
Even though those parameters aren't on the Helix, HeadRush, etc... you can still try to emulate the effect.

Thinking about the Axe-FX III's new Cab block capabilities (each of the two Cab Blocks can load up to four Cab IRs):
If your audio interface has low round-trip latency, you can setup something very similar using your DAW... and mixIR (plugin).
HeadRush would be played (without Cab Block) into the DAW application, mixIR would be setup with the desired Cab IRs, and you'd monitor the result (in realtime) as you're playing.
You could also setup advanced delay/reverb in the DAW... hearing the final result in realtime.
A side benefit of this is that you'd be recording the dry Amp signal. You could change Cabs and ambiance/EFX at any time.
If you've ever tried running two 2048-sample IRs in HeadRush, that and an Amp Block pretty well maxes out the DSP.
This is a means of working around that limitation.
