EDIT: SOLVED.
(Human error).
Panic Over! I'd plugged the wrong 13-pin lead into my guitar and was triggering a GR33 while frantically switching patches on a VG88... 🤣🤣🤣

Earlier today, I spent a few hours re-organising the patches on my VG-88, using external PC editing software.
Pleased with my work, I went to use it...

BUGGER !!!

After an editing session with "vg88 pro librarian", my patches have all got the correct names, but they all SOUND IDENTICAL.

So I fired up V-Editor and sent an entire set of patches down the MIDI cable. The patch names all changed to the correct names, but ALL patches still sounded identical.

So I performed a Factory Reset.
The patch names all changed to the correct names, but ALL patches still sounded identical.

Worryingly, it's not just the User Patches - the Factory Preset patches all have the correct names, but... they ALL sound identical.

Editing patches from the machine's front panel has no effect on the sound, either.

I have a spare VG-88 that I can use in the meantime.

Any clues?
