I've just purchased a GR50 but need to get the factory sounds back in it, does anyone know where I can get them and also the card patches that used to be available. I tried Yahoo groups but they don't seem to work now and I would like a good collection of sounds. The volume pot is also snapped although it still works, is there a third party replacement part as Roland no longer stock spares. All help very much appreciated

You could always try a factory reset. I posted about it here: https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=20523.0
Regarding the card patches, they're pretty hard to find these days but keep an eye on places like EBay, Craigslist, Kijiji and other buy and sell type websites. I think Elantric may be able to help you with the volume pot issue. Have fun with the GR-50 Chris.  :)

If you do the factory reset you'll lose all the patches that come stock on the gr50.  It reverts to some basic tones that, in my opinion, are not as useful. Plus, Roland have pulled their support for this unit on their site.  I just bought a used one, thought I'd start with a fresh blank slate with a reset, thinking surely the 'factory settings' listed in the manual would be retained.  NOPE!   :o  So, if everything is working ok, I suggest don't reset.  BTW the link that Kenmac posts is from 2012.  At that time Roland may still have supported the gr50.  Now I'm at a loss as to how to get the original sounds back without spending money on a third party card.  Paul

Thanks I just downloaded that patch set from Mark.

I ran into the same problem with doing a factory reset and lost all the Factory patches.

I had those patches on a floppy disk that Roland had sent me.

However when I attempted to dump those factory patches back into the gr 50, the MC 300  sequencer  which can do system exclusive dumps, noted that my floppy was now corrupted.

I realize this is an old thread however I did not see a link to the factory patches.

Roland has them on their site.  Here is the link...

I have a GR-50 that I purchased back in 1989. It's been gathering dust for a very long time, and probably hasn't been switched on for at least 15 years. I'd quite like to resurrect it, but I imagine that after 31 years the battery will be stone dead, and the memory will be empty.

Now, I have a copy of the default GR-50 factory patches from Roland, but what's the best way of loading them into the GR-50?

I have a Windows 10 (64-bit) PC, but no MIDI interface, so I guess I'm going to have to get one and then use something like MIDI-OX. Can anybody recommend a suitable MIDI interface please? Since this is probably the only thing I'll ever use it for, I'd prefer something cheap and cheerful (that works!) if possible. Alternatively, are there any suitable interfaces for Android devices?

Many Thanks

Thanks, that's one of the ones I'd been considering.

Do you happen to know if MIDI-OX is capable of doing that? Or is there an alternative that you would recommend?

Many thanks

If you are running a Windows system, I recommend BOMES SENDSX
https://www.bome.com/products/sendsx#downloads

A very simple interface to use,
and if sending bulk firmware data to an old midi device, I also recommend adjusting the setting for midi speed throttling.
In the setting menu, check the Throttle checkbox, and bring the midi send speed back halfway between 'normal speed' and 'slow speed'.
This gives the older and slower CPU devices time to digest and process the SysEx data as it streams in.

Thanks for that. I was concerned that as a pretty ancient device there might be speed issues, so it's good to know that there's a way of addressing that.

I uploaded a bunch of patches here on the forum for the GR-50/D-110 some time ago. Dont ask me where though. Its been a while. I never noticed the Ipad editor posted in this thread for the D-110 and other synths. Thanks for that. Ill give it a try.

Happiness is!  I was able to bulk-load the factory patch set to my GR-50 from my linux box with a Roland UM1 USB MIDI interface and the pmidi utility.  Worked like a charm.  Now I can play massive pipe organ chords on my guitar! Muwaaaahahahaha  ;D ;D ;D

If you go to our patch database, and pull up the board "Roland GR-50", I think you'll find all the GR-50 patches there....
