I'm interested in picking up a GR-20. It's old but for a couple hundred bucks, something fun to experiment with.

Browsing websites like Ebay and Reverb, I see descriptions that include the phrase 2004, or 2010, or 2010s. Are there different versions of the GR-20? Was it upgraded by Roland, but no change in the name? Looking at the box itself, how can you tell?

Beware, it's a trap. I started the same way, now, along with my GR-20, I also have a GI-20, GR-30, Two GR-33s, VG-99, VB-99 and Two GR-55s. I'm not sure if I'm bragging or complaining. :)

Same hardware all the way through, but an early firmware update added "Bass Mode" to the GR-20.

The GR-20 has a limited pallet of tones and not particularly editable, but the ones it has are very tasteful.

kenact LOL!!  Yeah I hear that! Thanks for the feedback from all of you so far. While we on the subject of comparing the GR-20 to possibly the GR-30 or 33, is there any noticeable differences in terms of tracking accuracy between those units?

Not really, a lot of people like the GR-33, it has extra things like an Arpeggiator.

Also available on the GR-30...which I like better because you can attach a remote expression pedal...but that's just me because I like to do that sort of thing.....   ;D  ::)
