A hack cover of Toto's Georgy Porgy. Getting a little deeper into the Reaper DAW and Roland GR-55 guitar synth. Used compression and exciter on the entire mix and added some EQ, compression and reverb on the vox. A few vital stats:
.

Piano: GR-55 "Double Low Piano"
Strings: GR-55 string ensemble - I forgot the actual setting.
Drums: MT Power Drum Kit 2 software
Bass: Cheap Jackson bass through Boss ME-70 set for clean tone with some EQ
Rhythm guitar: Floyd Rose Strat with a bit of chorus through the GR-55
Lead guitar: PRS Custom 24 through the ME-70 in the lead stack model with a bit of boost and delay

A few glitchy playing spots on the GR-55 "piano" but I auto punched some really rough spots. Generally pleased with the results. Wish my voice was better.  ::)

Hello.
Below is a link to my recordings. I used different processors: Boss GT 3, GT 8, GT 10, then roland GR 55, VG 99, now Boss GP 10 :), and various vst plugins
Great fun, although not really :)

Some crappy newbie samples from my Grand Stick + GR-55 - been at the Stick 3 weeks, the GR-55 one, so baby steps.  Just a little 12 bar blues practice riff I came up with.  The first uses the acoustic guitar + church organ and the pan flute patches, the second uses the Whistle patch.  May have tweaked the patches, I forget.

Have mercy on a newb!  :D

GK-2A on Chapman Grand Stick treble side, GK-3 on Carving Holdsworth Fatboy, GK-3B on Ibanez BTB406QM, Roland GR-55, VG-99, Helix floor, FC-300, US-20, more GK-3s, V-Bass

Getting frustrated on the Stick (still practicing), but wanted to play with the GR-55 effects on something I can kinda play a bit.  So here's a snippet of my hacked-up acoustic version of "Little Wing" on my Yamaha silent guitar, piped into the GK-2A on the Stick (plugged in for power, but with the synth volume off) then through the GR-55 "normal guitar"-> effects path.  Just goofing around, very ungood playing, didn't try to set good levels or fix anything, just two tracks straight through.  Like I say, the color of my musical talent is a nice meaty ocher.  :D :D

Oh yeah, effects used in the patch include the univibe and space-d, tweaked slower, then whatever default delay reverb and chorus were in the patch.

Hmmm, that's not an mp3 - are soundcloud links ok here?  I tend to upload everything there, even little practice hacks...

Received a GK-3 recently and mounted it on my Carvin Holdsworth Fatboy, played around a little with GR-55 patches, here's the Celesta patch plus the Music Box voice and some fx, me fingerpicking "As Tears Go By".  My playing sure needs work, but the GR-55 is tracking better on the guitar (which I can at least kind play already) than on the Stick.

Got my VG-99 and GR-55 together talking through my Helix.  Not a great example of programming or using any of them, nor wonderful playing or composition, but just to show I got the wires connected right lol:

I've got the 3 units at my desk all plugged into the PC with the manuals up in Adobe reader and the editors all talking to their respective units.  Adrift in a vast sea of possibilities....  :D  Used a modified "2VirtualNylons" patch on the VG-99 (used polyfx slow gear on them) in parallel with an oboe / bassoon patch I made on the GR-55.  Only effects used in the Helix are reverb and the looper.

The guitar on this is an ES Les Paul, GK-3 pickup into the GP-10. A patch I worked up for a nylon latin sound.

Recorded Christmas Eve, 2019. I've had the riff for a while, finally finished a set of changes for it, worked up the backing, and hit "record."

Cheers and Merry Christmas!

Catching up in a Lurker way on missed posts, stumbled upon this one. A happy morning spent listening to some new (old) music, thanks chaps.

Here's my contribution, I've been trying to record something new every month or so this year, along with an old band buddy, swapping recordings each month. Most feature the VG-99, with drums from logic; I'm playing everything else and managing the virtual drummers. . . . .

This track, 'Step back from the ledge', was born of the idea to do a track featuring exclusively synth derived sounds from the VG (apart from the drums!). It also has the virtue of being one of my shorter tracks. . . . .

More of my stuff here - https://rfluorescence.bandcamp.com - top five tracks are all fairly fresh, this year, and the rest are from the last five years or so. All but 'Textet' feature the VG99 or GP10. . . . .

Enjoy, kind regards to all and thanks for the tunes, Roland

My first recording of guitar synth right after I bought my GR-1 and GK pickup. The tune is called "Daves Dream". I was watching a Discovery channel documentary about the Bikini Islands flora and fauna returning after being vaporized by some of our nuclear test weapons in the fifties. It was exactly 50 years later that Discovery Channel filmed the area and everything had returned to it's original state. The ship that launched the bombs was called "Daves Dream". I especially liked the basses in the old GR-1.All the tracks are played by me.The first version had a GR-1 sax that was cool and if I can find it I will post it as well but this version has the "head" to the tune being played on electric guitar. Probably a Johnson J-Station but I don't remember what I used.

This is very nice! You could have been on Steely Dan records.  Tasty!     I had a J Station for the longest time...

My little clip is not interesting except for the way I went about creating it. I started out wanting to add synth sounds to My Axe FX III for live use. I found that my VST plugins sounded great right out of the box, even the free ones. So, I have been using Gig Performer with My Axe FX III as an audio interface with the Midi Guitar 2 plugin. On this track I used my Godin LGXT for the piezo acoustic and all effects are VST plugins. I used the Waves studio rack for effects on the guitar and synth sounds. I put Midi Guitar in the Global rack space feeding it audio from Axe FX USB 5 and 6 and the midi connects to a virtual midi port (Loopmidi). I named it Midi Guitar 2 and use it as a midi input in my rack space. It comes up like any other midi input and that connected to Roland SRX Strings VST. I also use a Roland GI 20 but not in this example. I use The GI 20 for more precise and complex tracking and voicings. Midi Guitar has some limitations, but the GI 20 fixes them. The next step is to buy a super tablet for live use, but this setup is like a supped-up GR 55. If you want to get guitar modeling and alt tunings use a SY 1000 it also works in this application.

Everything from modeling to the real deal, my house looks like a music store.

Sounds good Jim, but what is the advantage of doing it the way you did, vs the GR55 Acoustic sim with a Strings PCM patch. Ive even added a bass synth to my patch on pcm2 to give it a fuller low end. I have on occasion, used the guitar midi out of the gr 55 to control VST instuments and mix it with the gr 55 patches. Latency is not really an issue except with the usual instant attack type pcm tone, but strings, pads, etc. no problem. My current rig is a Helix LT used as both an audio interface and controller for the GR55. I have the power of the Helix, to do control changes on the gr55, the gr55 for all its toys and sounds, and then also use the gr55 to control vst's which come out thru the Helix into to a mixer with the gr55.

I don't know if you remember several years ago I was trying to figure out and understand the midi mapping between the GT100 and the GR55. You and others here were instrumental in helping me get it all figured out, and it has been amazing every since.
