The concept was 1st employed by Lindsay Buckingham using inline AKG cable transformers

Yes it does. It's activated when you pull the tone pot. It gives it a boost, but does indeed lower the impedance making for a dark tone. I don't find I use it much as I prefer a brighter sound. I didn't know that about Buckingham—I'll have to look up more info about that. Thanks for the info.
Gear: Yamaha Revstar RSS20 with Fishman Tripleplay Controller, D'Adarrio EXL130 Strings, Line 6 Helix Native, NDSP Tone King Imperial, Focusrite Saffire Pro 14, Dell Inspiron 5676, and tons of audio effect and synthesizer plug-ins.

The tone gets darker as the transformer input is 50k ohm - which presents a high freq roll off , but it does provide a battery free signal boost when activated

Push tone pot in and its true bypass without the transformer

I buried the dongle of my FTP Connect under the pickguard on this MIM Telecaster:

I used a Neutrik USB A to B bulkhead that I inserted into the butt end. The crimped terminals on the pickup connector are reversed to accommodate the reversed pickup mounting.

It works well connected to my iPad through AUM, controlling Auv3 synths. I like the FTP.
