I've discovered a new way to do this. It has some real advantages, and a few drawbacks, but it's pretty cool. We've seen string mutes and hold2 to accomplish the change from held chord to solo, here's a completely different approach.

The good/bad news is that this method uses a midi controller to play the chord. So a custom MIDI note source setting must be used. Since that setting is system wide, it means that GK notes won't play on any Part 4 sounds in all scenes. I can live with that, I think.

By using midi notes to play the chords to hold, the guitar sound can be anything instead of being tied to the chord sound.

Advantages:
  • easy to solo guitar over synth with no muting or hold control needed
  • scenes for the held chord and solo are chosen independently
  • solo using any scene or with just guitar over the held synth chord
  • one (midi) control click plays the chord and sets the solo sound
  • only one more click changes to a different chord and can also change the solo sound

To do this, a midi controller sends note on's to play the held chord using part 4 of a scene. Parts 1-3 remain set to GK in and can be used for the solo synth guitar sound. The cool surprise is that scene changes can be made right after the note on messages and that will be the solo sound, while the chord sound remains held on the initial scene. Or a scene with only the midi part 4 can play the chord while a guitar solo's over it without synth.

The chord sound can be stopped with an All Notes Off midi message or it will stop when the scene is changed after playing some GK notes. But any scene can be selected, manually or with a midi PC, the chord will hold the original scene sound. However a program change to a new scene done after playing GK notes will stop the held notes.

The midi controller can store a selection of chords notes, so soloing over a series of different chords is simple. By starting each controller message series with a program change to the held scene, the chord sound is chosen. Sending All Off stops any previous held chord notes. Then new note on messages play the next chord. Adding a program change last can select any solo scene. The solo scene can be chosen manually too, but not after GK notes are sounding.

This is a program change to the GM-800 on channel 1, followed by note messages on channel 14 that will sound on part 4 of scene 112. If desired, a program change to a different scene can be added or done manually before soloing. Otherwise the scene 112 parts 1, 2 and 3 will be the solo sound. If these parts are all off, guitar alone can play over the held synth chord.

Variax Top things to know / Re: Line 6 VDI Interface
Last post by kbzona - Today at 08:48:44 AM
Hello again!, after successfully finishing the VDI interface, the only thing that i need to do is change the cheap aliexpress powersupply that i bought... It introduces too much noise..

I was wondering if I can just use the original variax 9V power supply? or will it fry my variax changing from 7v to 9v ?
Has anyone tried this?

Thanks in advance

Quote from: panixgr on Yesterday at 11:50:38 AMThank , too much reading, a long way for, but its ok!!
I look at the back of my crate, no LINE IN.

Its on the front , far right - post  pic of your amo.
if yours lacks the Line In, get a TRS Insert cable. And use the Ring Return connection

You can find it here: https://github.com/sixeight7/VController_v3/releases/tag/3.12.0

New in firmware 3.12.0:
  • Added support for user devices. You can now add up to 10 user devices, with patch names, custom controllers and expression pedals, tap tempo, tuner, scene and looper support, as long as the device supports this functionality through MIDI. Almost any device that supports MIDI can now be added to your VController, VC-mini or VC-touch.
  • Added support for the Zoom MS50G and MS60B (MS60B untested)
  • Fixed bug where parameters that were not in the first slot were not executed.
  • Labels are read from the default page, if there are no commands for the switch on the current page and there is a command on the default page.
  • VC-touch: pressing the device picture will take you to the mode select page.
  • You can set or hide non essential popup messages with a new setting.
  • VC-edit: fixed a number of errors copying and deleting items from and to the On Page Select field. Also fixed crash for swapping patches.

The new firmware is finally ready!
You can find it here: https://github.com/sixeight7/VController_v3/releases/tag/3.12.0

Note: VController users cannot install this firmware on existing hardware. A Teensy 4.1 must be installed first. Contact me on sixeightsoundcontrol@gmail.com to receive a price on this modification. Or you can do the modification yourself. More details here: https://github.com/sixeight7/VController_v3/blob/master/VController%20hardware/VController%20modification%20for%20Teensy%204.pdf

Jazz / Re: GR-55 - Holdsworth patch?
Last post by mrowley - Today at 01:37:07 AM
Below is a more guitar-based attempt at a Holdsworth Clean-Delay and Lead-Solo sound in one patch (login as member and pick up CL.SIRIUS.DR-AH.g5l below).
I use both Normal Guitar pickups (CL.) and Modelled Guitar in my setups, so some of this may be irrelevant to your own switching setup.
SIRIUS is the Chorus-Delay-Reverb-Swell part which can be adjusted to suit your taste.
Over CTL switch I can go to a Lead-Solo sound which removes the Sirius elements apart from some reverb, and kicks in a fuzzy Guvnor distortion pedal sound.

Maybe this could be the start of something for those searching for that elusive Holdsworth thing in one patch.

GK Serial/Digital (GK-5) / Re: GK5 device roadmap?
Last post by gumtownadmin - Yesterday at 03:01:03 PM
I am sure they do already have the next ten years already road mapped.
Also sure that all new GK modeling/synth units going foward will be GK Serial based, using the GK-5 and GK-5B, and maybe a GK-6 series with provision for future extra normal pickup input + GK vol, and more.

Sorry, the manual I found was for the G40CXL (which has insert and it for keyboard if I'm not wrong) instead of G40XL

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/33086/Crate-G40cxl.html

I think you can use the Line In on the front and just disable the Cab in the GX-100
