Is anyone still using the GT-8 regularly?

The old GT-8 multi-effects pedal contained the same analog circuitry as an Ibanez TubeScreamer. Most of its digital counterparts available today emulate this circuit digitally.

Is anyone still using a GT-8 today? (A pedal that's now 15 years old!)

While I sold my GT-8 years ago, my singer/guitarist still uses his and most recently, in July for a gig.

Being a total Luddite, I have always set up his presets for years.

Any tips worth mentioning for getting a good lead sound? (Maybe a particular favorite amp model or setting?)

Worth mentioning that the assign section on the GT-8 is still very robust. For example, you can even use the input level of your guitar to adjust various parameters (like a compression setting.)

There is very little analog cicuitry in the GT-8, all the amps and effects are digital DSP.

Thats incorrect

Older GT-5 and 1980s rack GP-100 do employ analog processing

My understanding was that the GT-8 had more or less the same circuitry as the GT-5, which was only discontinued after the GT-8. I stand corrected, however.

GT-5 was first in 1995 with analog preamps and distortions.

Next was the GT-3 in 1998, a cost reduced version, still with some analog, but it was only the preamp or distortion, but not both.

Then the GT-6 arrived in 2002, and from there on, no more analog, DsP COSM modeling only.

I set my singer up with the GT-8 using the stack return output into a Peavey Classic 50/50 rack mount amp (mono)
Output from the Peavey goes into a Tech 21 cab equipped with 2 x 12 EV speakers (vintage 70's era)

Amps on the GT-8 are usually the Marshall types (varies) and he uses a Boss OD which is assigned to the CTRL pedal when doing solos.
Presets will vary with amp selected and how wet the delay/modulation effects and of course reverb. No outboard pedals.

Clean sound is almost exclusively JC120

Hope that helps.

Thanks for clarifying.

I remember seeing a schematic for the GT-8 which showed some digital>analog>digital conversation, but my memory is obviously serving me badly.

Great, thanks.

The digital > analog > digital conversion would be for the analog out/in for the Send/Return loop

Have you not had any issues yet, with the knobs getting a bit twitchy on their own,
 random parameters changing ?

Can all the current users of VG99 qualify? In that case add one.  :)

Thankfully no issues so far - Always had it in it's flight case and cycled all pots, switches and expression pedal every month. Here's a pic of it being run in 4CM at Electric Picnic 2022.

I am really digging the one I picked up recently on the cheap. It is a big contender to replace my current backup, which is a Headrush MX5. I was touing with the thought of trying out an ME-90 but not so sure I need to now. This GT-8 sounds great!
