Yep, I did it again, using the line socket of a ready made USB extension cable as part of a 'run/program' switch for my Midi controller, I assumed the manufacturer had used the standard colour-pin mapping.

'A USB device has malfunctioned' was the cheery message I got from Windows when I tested it.

Of course, at first I was chasing bad soldering.

Turns out, on this particular cable the manufacturer had swapped D+  and D- (green and white).

All sorted now and no harm (apart from some wasted time) done.

The really annoying thing is that this is the second time I've been through this; aren't we supposed to learn from our mistakes?

Note: as an extension cable it worked fine as the 'D's were correctly connected end to end, just with the wrong colours.
