Because my FTP is still across the pond and I not in iPhone/iPad world (but...  Mac OS yes...) I decided to check that is possible use MIDI controller (like FTP) on Android.

So... IT WORKS!!! Of course it is not e GarageBand or Sample Tank but it works.
I connect OP-1 (by Teenage Engineering) via USB OTG to Samsung Galaxy S3 and use Keyboard Sounds Pro (trail). It looks like it would be possible use Android tablet with TouchDAW for control any MIDI device (GR55 for example). If device isn't USB MIDI class compliant I will use 5DIN to USB cable... Sound great.

After some research I found that latency could be a problem on Android. I will check it. Generally it is  hardware dependent and could be in range  from 40 ms to 250 ms. As I heard from programmers the best are Galaxy Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. Next Xperia Z. Next the rest... So: check, check, check.

FTP works on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2

MIDI Viewer on Android responds fast.

But Audio latency (due to Android OS ) remains way too long - closer to a full second gap between hitting a note and then hearing a sound.

. . . the future ain't what it used to be . . .

Some values from of Dr. Achim Leubner creator for example Grand Piano and Keyboard Sounds for Android.

Galaxy Nexus
   on-screen: ca. 80-85ms
   Midi/USB:  ca. 50-55ms
Nexus 7
   on-screen: ca. 125-135ms
   Midi/USB:  ca. 75-85ms

Some numbers you can get from Caustic 2 which show device latency in settings.
