I have used XILS-lab software synthesisers for some time. They have just released a late beta for a new synthesiser "Synthix" an emulation of the Elka Synthex. The Syntex is an obscure but very capable and highly sought after analog unit from the 80's. J M Jarre uses a Syntex extensively including for the sound of the Laser Harp in his live concerts. The reason I am mentioning it in this post is that the Synthix emulation offers a new Guitar Mode http://www.xils-lab.com/pages/Synthix_Detailled-Features.html which provides a specific voices/layers management approach for guitar players. For up to 6 MIDI chanels, two separate voices can be assigned.

It is hard to explain in a forum post so I would suggest if you are interested downloading the demo.

This link give a good demonstration of the Elka Synthex.

I own all of the XILS-lab synthesisers and find them a pleasure to play, Synthix is a bit CPU hungry which given its sophistication is not surprising. The MIDI Guitar capability is a neat feature and not common in high end software synthesisers. The other reason I am posting this is there is a half price group buy prior to the final release which lowers the barrier a bit if you do like it. The original units sell for around $5000 dollars when they come up on eBay so a $110  group buy is probably not a bad deal for a more capable and in my view sonically near identical emulation. (If it floats your boat)
