Any way to make the inbuilt wah effect switchless?

Not really, the only choices you have is
use a GAFC footswitch to enable the MOD or FX (which ever you are using for Wah),
or have the Wah effect 'on' when the channel is selected.

The Katana is not very helpful for engaging the Wah for live use.

Yeah I noticed... wanted to use katana without Extra pedals but looks like it's not possible. I've messaged boss CS to see if they plan to implement it at any point.
