If I can, I would like to rack mount my SY 1000, however, does anyone know what CC#, if any, can be assigned to the hold feature?
For instance, when using my GR30, HOLD cannot be accessed via MIDI CC#, but I cannot find anything about this in the manual, for the SY 1000.

Its user assignable to a MIDI CC#

Thanks, this is good news for me. Sure wish the gr30 or GR33 would accept it.

This seems to be very different from the sy-300 hold, which is polyphonic (in my experience). Why would this behavior have changed? A monophonic hold seems much less exciting to me.

The VG-99 audio hold (polyphonic) is great fun, and every SY-300 patch seems to have its' synths react to the hold function polyphonically.

Odd this function wasn't implemented in the GR-30 and GR-33. It exists in the older GR-1: CC#64 for Hold mode 1 and CC#69 for Hold mode 2.

Cool to hear you are planning on racking the SY. My sliding shelf comes today and I crossing my fingers that it will all go as planned. Share some pics when you get yours done!

Way behind the curve here but this is all interesting stuff and has me thinking of racking my SY-1000 and using my Morningstar MC-8 as its dedicated controller... Would LOVE ;D to see pics of your "racked" SY1000 and info on how you are controlling it that way!

.. .and here's some "controlling things"

new-ish  Pirate Midi Bridge6 (currently just for SY presets)
and a couple of FS-7 units for hold/chorus/tuner/ and swapping the
SY instrument delay for an Alexander Sky5000

BTW, for at least one of the FS-7 units I'm using its TRS out to an AudioFront midi I/O  .. very cool and easy and inexpensive...

Does the hold function act like the freeze in EHX Superego+ or EHX Freeze pedal? Can I use the SY-1000 to do what Superego+ does?

Thanks!

Rusty Kirkland

currently I have my hold switch assigned to "Hold All Instruments" and I can play over it with my Normal guitar track...

IIRC you can set a switch to Hold Instr 1  (or Instr 2 or Instr 3) or Hold All.

I'm not sure at the moment if it's a true hold like a Freeze pedal or if it continues to send input signal to the Instruments (1,2,3 or All)

Rusty                        I'll check that out and report back

Thanks For checking, I love the superego+ but if sy-1000 works that way then it's redundant. I'm still waiting for my SY-1000 to come in.

Brak(E)man

If I remember correctly the hold function works in the synth modes.
I might be wrong but I think not GR300 ( not other instruments) and only OSC synth has more than one mode.

I have the Freeze to compare with and for synths it's fine + you can use the sequencers on held synth notes.

(I haven't used the freeze with SY , I don't feel it's necessary.)

There's also the sound hold in FX block but that only works ok with single notes and there's a click bug.

See. Fi https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=27853.0

It's not the stutter , that's made intentionally but the clicks that sometimes occurs.

The sound hold in FX blocks is ok to use for something like this.

I got my SY-1000 and I'm a bit underwhelmed.
The Sound hold as you mentioned @Brak(E)man only works for Dynamic Synth and OSC Synth. And the Sound Hold FX is practically useless.

The other things that is missing from the freeze/hold perspective is attack and decay speed and stacking the frozen sounds. I think I will stick to my superego+ for now.
