Why wont SY-1000 USB 64 bit Core Audio  / MIDI Driver work on my macOS10.14 / macOS10.15?

Boss Support wrote>
SY-1000 USB MIDI trouble caused by interference by 3rd party USB MIDI driver.

To meet security requirement for mac OS 10.14, our USB MIDI Driver works only for 64bit MIDI Server.

If you use 32bit USB MIDI Driver, MIDI Server works as 32bit and USB MIDI for SY-1000 doesn't work.

For your information, your MIDI Server was boot as 32bit.

Roland/BOSS USB drivers you installed to your Mac work as 64bit.

But some 3rd party USB Driver works as 32bit and make interference to our USB MIDI Driver.

If you could uninstall all of 32bit MIDI driver, your MIDI Server works as 64bit, SY-1000 USB MIDI works.

Cautions and Limitations
Sound interruption or other less-than-perfect outcomes may be experienced if your computer's performance and specifications are somewhat inadequate. The types of applications you use and the way in which you use them can also influence the experience you receive.
If the PC is started up while the SY-1000 is still connected to the PC with its power turned on, the driver may not be loaded properly and you may not be able to use the SY-1000. In such cases, connect the SY-1000 to another USB port or turn on the power of SY-1000 after the PC starts up.
If the SY-1000 does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the SY-1000, and then turn the power of the SY-1000 off and on again.
If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the SY-1000 is in use, or if the power of the SY-1000 is turned off, then on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications that use the SY-1000, and turn the power of the SY-1000 off, then on again.
If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network while the SY-1000 was being used, the SY-1000 may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the SY-1000, then turn the SY-1000 off and then on again.
Audio clicks and pops may occur during playback or recording if you connect or disconnect other USB devices (such as USB memory) or turn another USB device on/off while using the SY-1000.
In some cases, you may not obtain the expected level of performance if you're using a USB-connected hard disk at the same time as the SY-1000. Do not use a USB-connected hard disk as the storage destination for the audio that you're playing back or recording.

About the items in the Settings dialog box

SAMPLE RATE
Displays the present sample rate.
To change the sample rate, select a sample rate from the menu.
*   When the sampling rate is switched, a small pop noise may be heard, but this does not indicate a malfunction.

Audio Buffer Size
You can adjust the audio input/output buffer size. (By default, this will be the sixth position from the left.)
Decreasing the buffer size will shorten the latency and improve realtime performance, but might make it more likely that you will experience audio clicks and pops, depending on your computer's processing power and the song data load.
Increasing the buffer size will lengthen the latency, but will make audio streaming more stable, and it will be less likely for audio clicks and pops to occur.
In general, you'll probably want to decrease the buffer size for better realtime performance if you're playing a software synthesizer in real time, or if you're monitoring an audio input that's being passed through your DAW software.
Conversely, you can increase the buffer size to prevent audio clicks and pops if you're recording or playing back song data that contains numerous tracks and presents a heavy processing load.
By changing the buffer size as appropriate for your situation, you can obtain the right balance between realtime performance and audio streaming stability.
* Note!
If you use an application with an audio equipment test function, after changing the buffer size, carry out a test.

ASIO Buffer Size
This is the buffer size that can be set by the ASIO application.

"Match with the ASIO sample rate" check box
This option matches the Windows sound sample rate, e.g. MME, DirectSound, or WASAPI, with the ASIO sample rate. Select this check box when using an ASIO-compatible application concurrently with a Windows sound-compatible application such as Windows Media Player.

"Show README" button
This button displays the README file (this document).

Hi, Have you had a chance to test the audio latency time. I could run the VG99 comfortably with Mainstage at 64 samples (obviously nothing to heavy sample wise!) Would like to see if the SY 1000 offers lower latency

Also similar question over pitch to midi over USB too. Thanks!!

About the items in the Driver Settings Panel
"SAMPLE RATE"Displays the present sample rate.  "Audio Buffer Size"You can adjust the audio input/output buffer size.Decreasing the buffer size will shorten the latency and improve realtime performance, but might make it more likely that you will experience audio clicks and pops, depending on your computer's processing power and the song data load.
Conversely, you can increase the buffer size to prevent audio clicks and pops if you're recording or playing back song data that contains numerous tracks and presents a heavy processing load.By changing the buffer size as appropriate for your situation, you can obtain the right balance between realtime performance and audio streaming stability. "Recording Margin"If the recorded audio data contains sound dropouts or noise even after you've adjusted the audio buffer size in your software and also adjusted the above "Audio Buffer Size," try increasing this "Recording Margin" setting.
* For some software, it may not be possible to adjust the buffer size.
"Recording Timing"If the timing of the recorded audio data is not correct, adjust this value. Note)
If you click the [Apply] while your audio software is running, the setting changes won't be immediately reflected. Only after all audio software have been quit, and the software is then started once again will the settings become effective.

Cautions and Limitations
•Sound interruption or other less-than-perfect outcomes may be experienced if your computer's performance and specifications are somewhat inadequate. The types of applications you use and the way in which you use them can also influence the experience you receive.
•If the PC is started up while the SY-1000 is still connected to the PC with its power turned on, the driver may not be loaded properly and you may not be able to use the SY-1000. In such cases, connect the SY-1000 to another USB port or turn on the power of SY-1000 after the PC starts up.
•If the SY-1000 does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the SY-1000, and then turn the power of the SY-1000 off and on again.
•If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the SY-1000 is in use, or if the power of the SY-1000 is turned off, then on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications that use the SY-1000, and turn the power of the SY-1000 off, then on again.
•If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network while the SY-1000 was being used, the SY-1000 may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the SY-1000, then turn the SY-1000 off and then on again.
•Audio clicks and pops may occur during playback or recording if you connect or disconnect other USB devices (such as USB memory) or turn another USB device on/off while using the SY-1000.
•In some cases, you may not obtain the expected level of performance if you're using a USB-connected hard disk at the same time as the SY-1000. Do not use a USB-connected hard disk as the storage destination for the audio that you're playing back or recording.

Stop playback or recording, and then start playback or recording once again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the SY-1000, then turn the SY-1000 off and then on again.

Try adjusting the audio buffer size of the driver
If the size of the driver's audio buffer is too small, sound may not be produced, or it may be impossible to carry out normal playback and recording. In such cases, you should refer to "Changing/checking driver settings," and increase the size of the buffer.

Sound played by your computer is inaudible or too soft

Solve SY-1000 Win 10 USB Driver installation problem

I had a problem downloading the driver on Win10 Pro 64 bit. I just upgraded my DAW from Win7.1 Dec. 2019. A couple weeks ago (2/11) the Zendesk didn't have copies of the drivers. I have a laptop with Win10 home 64 bit and that worked for me so I copied the drivers over from that machine. I tried to debug the problem on the MS forum, but didn't figure it out. Anyway looks like there may be a problem with windows ...

Remember that most Windows 10 drivers (for all equipment) are not supplied directly by vendors,
but are automatically downloaded from the internet via Microsoft when the new USB device is first plugged in to a USB port.

The automatic download didn't work on either of my win10 computers. On both machines it recognized the device, but not that it was an audio device. In device manager it showed up as Device other or something, but it did recognize that it was an SY-1000. I then right clicked and selected update driver and on Win10 home 64 bit the driver installed correctly, but on Win10 pro 64 bit it didn't. I followed the instructions and trouble shooting tips in the driver download to no avail. FWIW.

Have you updated the SY-1000 to the latest Firmware (1.03 currently) as the driver will not recognize the SY-1000 unless it has the latest firmware installed.

Also check the Windows Security settings for "Sound card mic input", may not sound relevant, but does stop audio devices from loading (and spying on you).

After starting the application, if connecting BOSS TONE STUDIO for xxxxx is not possible, then in Windows 10, set "Allow apps to access your microphone" to "On."
1. Click [Start], then [Settings].
2. Click [Privacy].
3. Click [Microphone] on the left side.
       The microphone setting is displayed.
4. To change the setting, move the "Allow apps to access your microphone" switch to "On."
5. Close the window and quit Settings.

First thing I did was update the firmware. And "Allow apps to access your microphone" is set to "On."

There are reports from Windows 10 users that that the Boss Tone Studio for SY-1000 recently stopped working.

On the Facebook SY-1000 Group, Jared Gunston discovered with last week's  Windows 10 update, the old SY-1000 USB Driver Version 1.0.0.0 ceases to work.

But as of today, it can become functional AFTER allowing Windows 10 to update new security files
AND install the new Roland SY-1000 USB Driver Version 1.0.1.0

Win 10 Update shows this as "ROLAND - MEDIA - 1.0.1.0"

Glad you updated, Just an update, I am on windows 1909 not the latest Windows 2004.

MY POST MORE MORE DETAILS:
Simple... But easy to miss.

I tried engaging services to force it, adding devices through device manager, uninstalling USB hosts, different USB ports, update chipset and serial IO drivers, etc and just could not get it to work.

I turned off windows updates because I am happy on 1909 and 2004 made my laptop sluggish and bloaty and when I ran debloaters the windows experience felt like everything was gone except the sluggishness.

To my knowledge and understanding, windows update has nothing to do with a Boss and Roland product... BUT... If you having the problem and you getting the yellow triangle under OTHER DEVICES / SY-1000 in device manager, turn on updates and watch. ROLAND MEDIA will install. I've never heard of this service/driver or seen it mentioned anywhere, but once that installed and I reset my PC all is working just fine.

If it fails to install, click retry. Mine failed first time and after clicking retry no problems.
Currently Rig:  GT-1000 and GR-55.
