So what's up with polyphony on this thing. Can it do full 6 note polyphony? From the demos, I was blown away. Resynthesis? So there are no tracking issues right?

Finally I need to save money to spend money, again.

Unveil the Universe Within.  Enzo is a multi-voice synthesizer that will track your guitar for tight monosynth leads, complex chord polyphony, or multi-note sequenced arpeggiation, all without the need for a special pickup.  Watch Angelo completely transform his input signal and re-synthesize it with the Enzo's synth tool palette.  Hook up an expression pedal directly to the back of the pedal for expressive control or automate with MIDI.

Live ambient improvisation using voice through Meris' new synth pedal Enzo, along with Meris PolyMoon, Strymon BlueSky, TC Electronic Ditto & Earthquaker Devices Arpanoid.

Recorded on location in Carrobbio Agli Angeli, Bergamo (Italy) in September 2018.

Background ambience (rain & thunderstorm!) recorded live using a Zoom H4N.

Thought i would get through the year without buying a pedal, I am surprisingly mistaken

The Synth features full polyphonic pitch detection when set to Poly.

The Pitch Shifter in Dry Mode features mono pitch detection, but it can also work well on chords that are consonant and not too complex. Here is an example of me playing some chords into the Enzo's pitch shifter:

https://soundcloud.com/angelo-mazzocco/enzo-pitch-bend-chords-in-dry-mode#t=0:10

This is recorded directly off the Enzo's outputs, and I'm just going straight into the Enzo with my dry bridge pickup.

So just to be clear, the pitch shifter is the classic time stretching technique that works best with single note lines, but also performs well with chords that are mostly comprised of 3rds, 5ths, and Octaves

QuoteFrom the manual:

1. Polyphonic (only the Poly LED on): The Polyphonic mode detects every note in your chord and assigns a two oscillator synthesizer voice to each one. The Pitch, Portamento, Sustain, Waveform and Modulation controls work the same as the other Synth modes.

can someone please educate me about the different filter types?

Angelo wrote>
The words "Ladder" and "State Variable" refer to the circuit design of the filter. The filter topologies I designed are variations on those classic types. For Enzo (and this is just a generalization) the Ladder filter give you a steeper cutoff and the State Variable gives you a broader sound with a more flexible band pass, both filter types are very useful and have their own unique sounds.

Low Pass works just like the name sounds, it passes low frequencies and cuts high frequencies. High Pass lets through high frequencies and cuts the low end. Band Pass just lets through the frequencies in a narrow band (like some wah wah pedals do). A shelving band pass (or any shelving filter) lets you emphasis certain frequencies while not full cancelling the rest of the signal (think of it like a filter with a preset mix).

The Filter control on Enzo allows you to dial the cutoff point, which is where signals start getting attenuated. The Filter Envelope modifies that cutoff based on your playing. And the Bandwidth / Resonance controls the sharpness of the filter and emphasizes the frequencies near the cutoff point.

What are the benefits of this device over an SY-300?

Seems to sound a lot nicer than the SY-300 but I am interested in learning more about how it tracks. There are no examples of fast playing that I can find just yet.

One would be stereo in.
The polyphony seems to be as good/bad as the rest of the nonhex efforts.

I play Country music too, I'm just not sure which country it's from...

What are the benefits of this device over an SY-300?

Take this with a grain of salt, I've not used the Enzo, but from listening to some examples and reading the manual here is a brief comparison of the Enzo and the SY300.  The Enzo is remarkable.  The team at Meris has creatively restricted options.  This restriction makes it seemingly easy to create great sounds, with a simple interface.

There are a few features the the SY300 does not have: Portamento, the Arpeggiator, pitch shifting the dry signal.

In some ways you can think of the Enzo as a sub-set of the SY300.    Compared the SY300 the Enzo has a comparatively narrow set of parameters.  This constraint appears to make it very easy to a broad range of pleasant sounds quickly.

A few data points:
OSC Wave Shape
Enzo - 2 OSC, 2 Wave shapes, The wave shapes for the OSC are not independently controlled.
Sy300 - 3 OSC, 6 wave shapes + Noise, Independently controlled wave shapes for each OSC.

OSC Freq
Enzo - OSC pitch for the two OSC is controlled together.  One knob sets the pitch (Pitch) for both OSC, a separate knob (modulation) is used to detune the OSCs.
SY300 - Independent pitch control of each of the OSC.

OSC Seq
Enzo - No Sequencer, Enzo has an arpeggiator.  The arpeggiator plays the notes back in order of loudness when they were first recognized. If you play a full chord, it will play back the notes in order of loudness.
SY300 - Three 16 step sequencers, one for each OSC.

Effects:
Enzo - Delay, with delay time set to tap, quarter note subdivision.
SY300 - broad range of effects, time based effect can be set with tap tempo or dedicated time.  Wide range of tap sub-divisions available.  4+ effects can be used in any patch.

Presets:
Enzo - 16 if an external midi device is used, 4 in a dedicated external switch is used.
SY300 - 99 user presets, 70 factory presets.

There are many more similar comparisons I could make (LFOs, Control assigns, Audio I/O, control switches...)
I don't view the limitations of the Meris a downside, I do believe there is genius in the choices they made to get such an impressive set of sounds out of a 6 knob stomp box.

In a continuum of simplicity to complexity, you could consider:

Simple <------------------------------------------------> Complex
EHX Syth9                   Meris Enzo                Boss SY300

In summary I'd say the Enzo offers a simpler feature set, has a few nice features not in the SY300 (Portamento, Arp).  The SY300 is in many ways more powerful, but that comes with a steeper learning curve.

Both the SY300 and Meris Enzo are great devices.  I'm an avid SY300 user, but I've got an Enzo in my future...

Review the Meris Enzo Manual for the MIDI Implementation

Good news there are users who have created MIDI Designer (IOS) Templates for remote real time editing

I like it sooooooo much! I'm really impressed, what can be achieved with a single pedal and without a GK  ;) the future is here, it's a dream....
It sounds awesome, deep and organic like nothing before ever heard on a pedal for guitar/bass , it has the same sound of a real analog/modular synthesizer, with an astounding arpeggiator unbelievable! Not just an approximation to a synth sound but it seems to be like a real pro synth.
I'm a lucky owner of the SY-300 and I like it, soon I will upload my patches, but IMHO the SY can be better thanks to the addition of the FXs and the Wave pedal, also the SY can compete with the ENZO for the Synth Bass sounds, but for everything else I feel that ENZO has a better polyphony ( that I miss on my SY300) a better arpeggiator and a better sound, let's say less harsh compared to the SY.
My only worry with ENZO is about the Presets management :
1) If I'm not wrong to save a preset I have to hold the ALT button and it will be saved in the internal location ---> how many Internal User memory locations?
2) The big limitation for me (of course), is that I can't see what is the current selected preset, the number at least
3) On the manual it says that to change/select a Preset I have to use the Program Change message, this is not so easy and fast to do, of course. I should use another pedal to do it, the SY I guess, right? I don't want to buy the Meris "4 Button Preset Switch" , I have no more free space on my pedalboard
4) Only an SysEx program to manage all the presets? I t would be great to have an Editor

Meris  - Enzo Knowledge Base
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=24289.0

For me  - Since the Meris is 1/2 size of SY-300 , it fits more easily on the pedalboard  - thus goes more places than SY-300

and Enzo sounds MUCH warmer  / analog vs SY-300

"Exists for iPad ..."   what a shame, really, I'm a windows user (even for the tablet)

about the Presets changing with the Midi Program Change by using an external midi pedal it's still a limitation for me, anyway would it be possible to do with the SY sending Midi PC to the ENZO?

Unfortunately for me,due to those reasons I will have to wait to buy the Enzo until when there will be better solutions about the Presets management

Hi,

You can now also use your browser to edit and control the Enzo. I've developed an editor that uses the WebMIDI standard available, at the moment, in Chrome and Opera.

The editor:

Youtube demo:

Resources and tips: https://sysex.io/enzo/

Have fun with your Enzo!

Hi!

I've updated the Enzo editor.

It now includes a simple preset manager.

Check it out at https://studiocode.dev/doc/enzo-editor/

Feedback welcome.
