"OMB's patented technology detects the signals from the strings and converts them to digital data without any latency. The signals are detected when holding any note, without even strumming the strings. An App on a smartphone or tablet picks up the signals enabling you to choose features like: auto accompaniment, solo playing, record and more.

The App also enables playing solo with a wide selection of instruments, shows the chords that are being played, records what you are playing and more. All these features provide you with a great new and unique playing experience. The App can be controlled hands-free by using the OMB's foot pedal."

IMHO Since their Hex PU sensor completely covers the bridge saddles , palm muting will be disallowed= limited use for many guitarists.

And not compatible with  Tuneomatic+ stop tailpiece (LP, SG )or vibrato bar guitars

Based on the demo , Latency is impossible to determine , some of the auto backing track features are covered in Trio+

Yet I still want to try one;), and applaud their efforts

Woah! Genuinely excited by this tech. Can't wait to try it out  :)

Love the fact that no one appears to be adapting their style - they're just players playing.

First thoughts: can you route the MIDI out to other apps within ipad? Also I assume you can tell it your in alternate tunings as it's not pitch detection but positional.

Also wonder what happens when things get a little sweaty being capacitance based.

Did you ever see the movie Frankenstein? ;D

Seriously though it would be something cool to try. It might be the device that gets me into soft synths.

Also as Asle pointed out to me - no palm muting!

My immediate problem solve =

;D :D

QuoteA detection system is provided for detecting a musical note played on a string instrument having a fretboard provided with a plurality of conductive frets and conductive strings. The system includes at least one conductor coupled to each of the frets; an inverter having a first terminal coupled to the conductor and a second terminal coupled to the conductive string, the inverter being configured to logically invert a signal transmitted therethrough, such that when the conductive string is pressed against one of the frets allowing thereby for a signal to be transmitted therethrough, the signal is sequentially inverted between two logical states at a frequency being dependent on the distance between the inverter and the fret; a frequency detector configured to measure the frequency; and a controller configured for determining the location of the fret along the fretboard in accordance with the frequency, and to thereby detect the musical note.

QuoteA floor effect unit for actuating a musical effect device is provided. The floor effect unit includes a base plate having at least one electrode configured to collect electric charges; a conductive plate having at least one pressable portion configured to collect electric charges having a polarity opposite to the polarity of charges collected on the electrode, pressable portion being configured such that pressing thereon reduces the distance between the at least one pressable portion and the at least one electrode changing thereby the capacitance therebetween; and a spacer disposed between the base plate and the conductive plate and being configured to provide dielectric gap therebetween, a printed circuit board coupled to the at least one electrode and the conductive plate and being configured to generate an output signal for operating the musical effect device in response to a change in the capacitance.

Just noticed from the Kickstarter page that it is limited to 14 frets and no pitch bending.

Which makes a used GEN2 YouRock a better value

i see a USB cable on the photo. does it need USB power or USB to computer / phone ? Looks funny as USB cables I use are 5 inch long. The longest i ever saw was 1 meter

OMB is a Kickstarter project currently in production phase; they claim a "digital backup band that adjusts to your guitar playing in real-time and lets you play other instruments' sounds with no latency".  I'm sure they meant "very low latency".

Has anyone had any experience with OMB (One Man Band) midi guitars?  They seem to use a different technology than pitch to midi, frets are hard wired.  Here is a link to their website: https://ombguitars.com/  You can retro-fit to an acoustic or electric guitar (pretty involved) or you can buy a guitar with the system already installed.  They claim "zero latency" .  There seems some risk of buying this technology and then after a couple of years the company is gone and then what?

As you can see these been around since the Sept 2017 Kickstarter campaign

I talked to them at 2020  NAMM 'just bumped into them during a coffee break as they had no booth

In April 2020 I contacted them and applied to become an installer as they sent me an early bird application via email
And explained we have a forum with 30,000 high tech guitarists

No reply

The system I saw in January 2020 was still an early prototype on a Telecaster and a companion iPad app was shown -but no sound was being demonstrated and it was all a non functional mockup being demonstrated
And their 4 year marketing campaign via email is a bit annoying as I've yet to see /hear a real world demo that matched their hype

It was originally much higher cost vs a TriplePlay Connect- and frankly with triggering that stops above the 14th fret -and four 4 years  no real reviews-its too risky for the total cost of ownership IMHO

$425 for the DiY with pedal

Complete guitars with OMB are $899

Here is video of a Ketron/OMB dealer using OMB guitars (acoustic, electric) to control their SD90  Arranger module:
seems pretty impressive
