You can't edit a patch unless the GT-1 is connected and powered.

At a minimum, you need batteries, a USB cable and a standard guitar cable's plug (because it won't power on unless you put a plug into the input jack).

A stereo cable or plug won't work, so you can't use the headphone adapter you probably already have in your kit bag.

On a different topic (could not re-find the thread, sorry).
I uploaded the latest software update 1.0.5 for Mac and I was under the assumption that they had fixed the feature where the NS would now have a on/off button like the other effects. This is in Tone Studio not the units editing screens.  Anyone aware of this? Thanks

Like any other stomp box, The GT-1 Input jack is the power on/off switch.
I cant think of any other gear you can Edit a patch without 1st powering the unit on . .

Of course using Boss Tone Studio for GT-1 , you can Create / Edit GT-1 patches on any Win/Mac computer - no GT-1 necessary

Sorry, I should have been more specific:

"You cannot edit and save a GT-1 patch on your Mac without a GT-1 connected to it and powered on."
