Suggestions, please, for the best way to simulate full-on, howling (but controllable!) feedback within the GT-100 direct-to-desk processing environment (i.e without the aid of external amp/ cabinet).

Mrchevy

I've never messed with the ACCEL pedal effects myself but , there is a FEEDBACKER setting in the options and several settings for it. You might tinker with that and find what you need.
Gibson Les Paul Custom
Epi Les Paul Standard
Gibson SG 50's prototype
Squire classic vibe 60's
Epi LP Modern
Epi SG Custom
Martin acoustic

Princeton chorus 210

GT100
GR-55
Helix LT
Waza Air Headphones
Boomerang III

And, a lot of stuff I DON'T need

You know there is a "Boss Feedbacker" FX

built into the GT-100?

It's best  if you can get that Speaker to String sound wave through Air coupling when tracking solos

For low volume Use a IK iLoud or Polk Hitmaster or a pair of old Auratone 5C SoundCubes's

and place speaker facing you three feet away and don't forget the infinite sustain trick by resting headstock of guitar directly on the small speaker cabinet

Or find an original Sustainiac Model C headstock transducer/ driver system

The Fernandez Sustainers are the classic answer, but they tend to take 2-3 seconds too long before you hear the results.

And EBow  or Paul Vo Wond are options too

I have an original 1983 Boss Distortion Feedbacker pedal but that is rather artificial sounding

Best choices I mention right at top of this post.

Thanks very much for your informative response, Elantric. However, whilst I truly do not want to come across as picky or ungrateful, I'm already familiar with most of the ways one can achieve feedback/prolonged sustain through external means. What I was specifically asking was whether or not anyone had found realistic-sounding ways of achieving the same ends entirely within the GT-100 itself, digitally, preferably without the graininess and excess noise which often accompanies my own ham-fisted attempts!

ZenSonic

You could always chain a 70s Big Muff to the GT100 and play though a Gibson ES330. I never had so much howling feedback in all my life as with that combo.

I know it is not what you are looking for. just kidding around.

Both GT-001 and GT-100 do have a version of the old 1983 Boss Distortion Feedbacker effect -"Built In"

Nothing beats the tone and control of the real deal I mentioned above.
But you could use the Guitar to MIDI function and trigger  "feedback guitar " PCM samples with Sampletank

The sustainiac is CRAZY.
I still have the soundsheet guitar player magazine released where they demonstrated that unit. I am still impressed by its capability.
Do you own one Steve?
I never saw one in a store but always wanted one just for the crazy things they tried in the demo.
(Play a note, feedback like mad, dump the trem until the strings go slack, then go back up again, then back down, then back up etc!)

That being said the feedbacker in Boss/Roland is capable of producing decent results with careful application:

Now that's a VG-99 doing the feedbacking but if your GT-100 has the same type of feedbacker effect onboard you should be able to get great results.
You might want to set it up so that the ACCEL roller activates the feedbacker.
I think in my own machines' case I just had it on all of the time (at least for that test).
If I release that patch I'd just have CTL1 or one of the pedals on the FC-300 activate it.

I believe in this demo, I just used the default feedback settings.  I can check the settings when I get back home but you should be able to get results similar to this on the 100.

Yes = its a great tool in the studio - even for acoustic instruments

Today the Digitech Freqout obtains decent results not capable from any Boss FX

I did eventually get a guitar with a sustaniac.   What a great thing it is.   That FreqOut is still a pretty cool pedal though.   The VG-99 feedbacker kind of gets you in that area the problem is with higher settings it mangles the tone undesirably. But up to a certain point it does work the way you would expect.

I have found that fake feedback can sound fake. You might be better off throwing a mic on a cab and getting the old fasion way for that track and recording the rest of your tracks direct. Some things can't be done digitally. I record with both real tube amps and direct to get a more organic sound. the real trouble is getting EZ drummer to be more like a real drummer without editing every hit.

The interesting thing about the sustaniac is when you kick it in you can actually feel the guitar vibrating - it's quite astonishing when you experience it.

I have a set-neck tele style guitar that does pretty good feedback all by itself with the SY-1000 without any feedback module employed, with a little volume it does it all by itself.
