Hi, just wondering if anyone is facing this? I'd assume the startup screen should be all black when it turn's on right? I got this 2nd hand and its still under warranty, wonder if its worth the trouble to send it if it wont cause any issues going forward, as it really doesnt affect anything once it enters the main screen.

Looks normal to me,
maybe adjust the contrast setting down a touch.
Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.

That is the way they are!
Normal for that screen, and they kind of wash out in look over 5 hours or so.
All Boss screens do.

LCD screens  react to temperature changes, longer "on" time = higher temperature. = must readjust LCD contrast to suit current temperature. The SY-1000 runs hotter than GR-55 , so SY-1000 requires readjust LCD Contrast after 15 minutes on time.

when I adjusted the contrast it actually made the difference in black shades more obvious... but I guess I have to leave it on a little longer?

I see, didnt know that haha, the longest I've left this on was about 2hrs in an air conditioned room, so maybe awhile longer, but the screen doesnt seem to be changing in terms of the difference in the black shades since I got them

I didnt know that about LCDs, it there a way for me to meas with it so the black shades even out?

Use LCD Contrast adjust for your viewing angle as needed, then back off a bit (= less dark)  - but all SY-1000 screens have blotchy spots - they are worse when LCD contrast is set too high (= too dark)

Thanks! Saved me the trip to the store to send it for checking, bummer that the screens are like that, considerig the price of this thing lol

Yea, I think there's a weird balancing act with this type of display-- where it actually is pretty readable in bright light situations, but doesn't maintain a very consistent contrast ratio between on & off from pixel to pixel. Some have had it worse than others.
