Hi all! I'm new here :D

Just starting to figure out programming this beast. One thing I've been trying to do is set up a patch with 2 levels of distortion, cannot figure it out!

Things I tried with Ctl1:
1. Just add another distortion. Sounded pretty crappy and metallic.. not digging the sound. So I tried:
2. Turn off FX1 while turning on FX2. This should be easy, right? NO. Is it even possible?
3. Change the distortion type on FX1. This works! But needs a bit of a boost in the drive level. So I added that too, and whatever I do I get more drive with Ctl1 OFF than ON! This is not what I need.

Going a bit crazy with this simple thing - any help welcome!

Thanks

It looks like you can set Target to OD/DS - Drive or level and set target min/max to taste.

An external EXPression pedal would make 'multi level' assigned adjustments a lot easier to manage.
Just move the pedal for a little bit of effect, or move further for lots more effect.

Billt,

What you appear to be trying to do is pretty easy, if I understand correctly. Ctl 1 can have multiple assigns and ranges, including switching between values. You could also have two different distortions with their own settings alternate. Again, not too hard.

Of course, I may simply not understand what you are trying to do.

On some patches I use Ctl1 to switch settings between my Gretsch and Telecaster- things like overdrive, tone, etc. No big deal.

I am trying to figure out how to get the CTL pedal make changes that I set it to make using the BOSS Tone Studio App.
What happens is that you can set values in the CTL page for CTL on/off, but if you have the opposite value in the regular setting page it reverses them.
I am not sure which to set first to make it work the way I expect. It doesn't seem to be consistent.

I am using the BOSS Tone Studio App to see things better, but then I am far away from the pedal and either can't reach the foot switch or can't see the computer screen.
So I am also trying to find a way to switch the CTL pedal on & off from the computer screen, since there is no button for that.
Usually the first parameter will switch on & off the CTL
It seems to work better when I am switching the actual pedal anyway.

After a quick scan of this thread, I don't see anything about the SY-300 or CTL settings. GHCOKY
But could you point out which page & entry is relevant to my questions.

Thanks

Roland Boss has offered Control Assignments with same FX CONTROL strategies  since 1980s.

Learn it and it opens up lots of possibilities, more than I can explain in one thread and hopefully this tradition will contunue another 30 years

I still don't see anything about the SY-300 and it's pedal assignments.
(If it's there I don't see it. There is a lot to look through here.)
Is there another unit that works the same way, with an explanation given?

My question is how to get the pedal programming to work the way I set it.
I set a pedal to set a specific range of a parameter, but it often comes out backwards, or just doesn't seem to work once saved.
I thought it was that I have to set the regular setting the same as the pedal setting and then save it, but that doesn't always work either.
I know it has to do with what the regular parameter is set at, but it is confusing how these affect each other & why they should at all.

Rhcole

I'm pretty good at programming the SY. I don't have any of the issues you are experiencing.  I recommend turning assignments on or off for the various controllers, as it is possible to have conflicting assignments that produce unpredictable results.

Many of us learned by practicing on a basic simple patch and then getting more complex. Not having your computer near the unit could certainly be frustrating as well.

Expanding on what Rhcole wrote above - are you starting with an initialized patch? Init a patch and try setting a pedal controller and see if it works as expected.
