TC Electronic Ditto X4 Looper: dead after less than 3 years of light use. Never left the house, actually.

Called the "support" number available for USA customers; no answer, but I was offered a chance to leave a message asking for a callback next week.

Yep, thanks. That's the "support" to which I had earlier referred.

The guy I sold mine to had a similar problem. Turns out that inside the chassis there's an SD or compact flash card which stores your loops, but also contains the firmware for the pedal. It can come loose / disconnect if the pedal is jostled and then it will refuse to boot and appear dead. If you open it up and reseat the card it may work again.

FWIW, I had one of the original flashback pedals.  After a few years of light use in a home studio it died.  I opened it up, the switch was fine, no obvious failure points.

I also have a Polytune... never had a problem.

Good Luck!

Any electrolytic caps in it? They don't last forever.I repaired a posh stereo valve amp for someone a while back. Cost a fiver. The new cap I mean....

It was all surface mount components, as I recall. I used the failure as an excuse to buy a strymon Timeline.  So it all ended well 😄.

I took the chip out, and rubbed the contacts with a pencil eraser. Dang, that stuff is tiny. Still no go. Also tried stuffing a little folded foil as a shim to press the chip down more firmly against the contacts. Sigh. Nope.
