Hi,

For the two banks of channels, the delay2, global eq, loop level, and other effects, i understand how it works.
But for Assignable CC# and Program change to the Katana channels and Pedal Functions... could you explain to a non midi expert what does it mean?

thanks
fifi

QuoteWhat if you have something like a Boss GT-10 multi FX unit? Would you be able to use the midi function to at least control the amp switching?

On a Katana Head or Artist - yes

the basic list of MIDI control is in the Katan Head manual

Connect a 5 pin MIDI cable from GT-10 MIDI Out to Katana Head / Artist MIDI input

For more advanced MIDI control - Map what you want using BTS, and Katana will store your settings ( BTS not required for MIDI control)

Dont forget there is a new "MIDI SETTING" system for assignments using the latest Katana Firmware and Boss Tone Studio.
- its described in the new BTS for Katana Parameter Guide

IMO the katanas definately need to go to people who would be willing to be happy with the tones themselves only. Expecting to use the effects live beyond very minor use will lead to Craigslist for people not willing to buy outboard effects or who use none or very little.

Or harness and control the Katana 50/100/Artist excellent FX ( same class FX as GT-100 / MS-3)
with a Primovasound MIDX-20 adapter to harness and control them at live gigs with a MIDI foot controller - like a KMI Softsetp2

Read all the available Katana FX which MIDX-20 can be controlled via MIDI  here

He only mentions the expression pedal controlling volume and wah, even used with the GA-FC footswitch. I was hoping I could use an expression pedal with the delays. Does anyone know if this is possible? I really liked the delays.

not (currently) possible with stock Katana

but with Primovasound MIDX-20, you can use an EV-5 Expression pedal or any third party MIDI foot controller with expression pedals that transmit MIDI CC# messages to control numerous Katana FX parameters

Thanks for sharing the extensive list of MIDI CCs etc that, titled, MIDX Boss Katana V2 Bridge - MIDI Implementation. I would like to know if those CCs are actually the same CCs that the stock Katana responds to WITHOUT the Primovasound MIDX-20 (apart from the red ones)? I'm just a little frustrated because I'm really interested in the Katana head and have a Behringer FCB1010 to control it but there's no official Boss documentation that states what the MIDI CC is for the tap tempo.

Those MIDI CC# in the table above will NOT work without the MIDX-20

the MIDX-20 is doing the heavy lifting

Thanks, that's frustrating. Any idea if there is an official CC that is mapped to Tap Tempo? That is the only thing that is missing from the official manual.

Hey all.

I've been mapping my GT-1000 to my Katana Artist and I'm looking for the correct CC value for the tap tempo (either global if available or for the master delay).

Does anyone have that info?

gumtown

Katana tap tempo is not accessible by cc# midi controller.
The only way to control the Katana tempo is to calculate the tempo to Delay effect time parameter,
and send system exclusive data to directly control the Katana delay time parameter.
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just to clarify, is this the case even when using Primova Sound MIDX-20?

Thanks again.

No, because Robert has done the hard work of coding tempo-to-delay logic into the MIDX-20 firmware.

That's good news.

Ok, where do I order this and I'd like to get my hands on some instructions for it as well.

Thanks for the guidance guys.

Can someone please tell me how to setup a POD HD500 to control the Katana Artist?

I have a Katana Artist and a POD HD500. I have read that I can control the Katana via midi. I read in some places that you just set it up like so-and-so and it works. But the so-and-so left many details out for a midi noob.

I know my way around computers, effects pedals & processors like the POD HD500 and soundboards... I've just never dealt with midi.

For instance, I am wondering what I set each parameter to (see pic below)?

Footswitch: Self-explanatory
Message: ?? (options are CC, CC toggle, prog change, bank change, note on)
CC#: Use ones from Katana manual ??
Midi Channel: ??
Value: ??

While I'm asking, how do I set the toe switch to turn on wah and then control it with the built in expression pedal?

Thank you!

(YouTube link removed from quote, see above)

Thanks for that, I'll see if I can make sense of it all. I read a lot of that prior to posting, YouTube link was new though. Not making a lot of sense to me.

I was hoping someone here knew exactly what I needed to do. There were so many POD HD's sold that I thought many people would have done this. Nothing I can find on the internet or YouTube. Maybe I'm just using the wrong search parameters. Or maybe the question should be on it's own. I'll try that, then others can also find the question if they're looking.

Does someone know the exact midi settings to control a Katana amp with a POD HD500??

Specifically I have the Katana Artists and I love the amp!

I originally posted the question here after reading all I could. https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?action=post;quote=188073;topic=22630.0

I re-read the many pages and it's not making a lot of sense to me. I've never worked with midi. I figured so many of these HD units sold that many people would have done this, maybe not! I know there's better midi controllers out there, but this is what I've got!

So I figured I'd started a new thread. May be best as the topic doesn't exist. Also, anyone else looking for this answer could now find it (if it exists).

I'd like to do everything that the GA-FC does; change channels, turn effects on/off, use the wah & volume. I don't know what to do with all of these parameters:

Footswitch: Self-explanatory
Message: I assume CC? (options are CC, CC toggle, prog change, bank change, note on)
CC#: Use ones from Katana manual ??
Midi Channel: ??
Value: ??

Thank for the help, sorry if this is redundant!

You will learn a lot by working through it.  Couple of comments:

 • You'll likely need to send both PC and CC messages
 • The limited set of MIDI commands are documented in the Katana manual
 • You can decide which channel to use. See setup chart in the manual for configuring the amp.
 • Section 20 of the v3 manual explains the recognized CC values. Some are on/off and some (e.g. volume) are continuous

I have the midx-20, and I can't seem to get any of the CC's to work, except for the ones the Katana Head is already supposed to do with regular midi control.  Very perplexed... ?

Be sure you have the proper MIDX-20 firmware installed

I'm pretty sure I did all of this properly.  I did it again just to be sure, and I am getting the same results.  I'm dumbfounded.

I'm not going to go through the debugging process.  It's just not worth it for me.  I'll just work with the limited functions.  I thought if I downloaded the Assistant & proper firmware it would work.

with ANY MIDI Control setup, you MUST use a third party "MIDI Monitor data sniffer" - to verify you have all set up correctly  - work slowly and check your work

I still use this for past 21 years

and be sure you have Katana USB cable  inserted into the proper USB Host jack on MIDX-20

Or use an Android phone as a MIDI Monitor to fully debug any MIDI System.
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=8393.msg67942#msg67942
The USB MIDI Monitor lets you view all incoming MIDI events from your USB MIDI interface. The events are timestamped and the event type, MIDI channel and values are displayed in a scrollable table. For control changes, extra information is displayed if the control change is a known type like volume or panning.

Yup.  To be thorough, I should sniff the bus and see what's being sent.  My utility laptop has a variety of MIDI monitor tools on it, so will drag that upstairs.  Hard to see why one of the 127 CC#s would fail to transmit, but stranger things have happened.

I actually have a Bus Pirate in the shop, but it's not as convenient - Arrrrrrhh, Matey!

I still use my Audio Tool Box 90% of the time - or my ipad or android phone with a USB Class compliant cable
