With the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, it's easy to transfer photos and videos from your high-resolution digital camera to your iPad Pro. After you connect the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, your iPad Pro automatically opens the Photos app, which lets you choose photos and videos to import, then organizes them into albums.
Add even greater capability and versatility to your iPad Pro by powering the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter with a USB Power Adapter. Then you can connect USB peripherals like hubs, Ethernet adapters, audio/MIDI interfaces, and card readers for CompactFlash, SD, microSD, and more.

Edit:  and not suffer the pop up error message

The Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter supports standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro transfers data at USB 3 speeds, while the 9.7-inch iPad Pro uses USB 2.

The big news is this new adapter allows the Apple iPad Power supply to charge the iPad during use with third party USB Class compliant Audio / MIDI interfaces

I Ordered one ! - will be here Wednesday and I'll test it with several USB Class compliant Audio / MIDI interfaces

Of course I expect it to be like many recent Apple Accessories, and only work with latest IOS 9 or newer. (Confirmed)

Hey I request someone who has one to please check if it works with the iPhone as well . Similar to the first adapter I assume they won't comment to the fact that it's compatible but it would be great.

A CCK that lets you charge your ipad and also provides a powered usb port from the looks of it.

PS
Very expensive

I think I paid the same price ($40-ish) for the now-previous generation Lightning-to-USB adapter.

Not arguing that it's not expensive.  Just surprised they didn't raise the price on this latest generation.

Got confirmation that my Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter arrives today. Plan on testing tonight with iPhone 6 Plus and IPad Air2

And several USB Class Compliant Audio /MIDI Interfaces
(EDIT - it WORKS with iPhone 6 Plus!)

In theory this new Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter will end  requirement for a powered USB Hub on many devices.

QuoteJust surprised they didn't raise the price on this latest generation.

Actually this new one is $10 more than the old one

Older generation Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter was $29.00 at Apple Store, and is $18 on EBay

I think I just paid $21 for mine. Looking forward to your report on the new one

Another aspect that some might have missed - this new  Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter supports USB wired RJ-45 Ethernet adapters without a third party Powered USB HUB

GovernorSilver

Oh man, $10 to normal people is $1000 in IOS musician land.  ;)

Thanks for the info, Elantric.

Quote$10 to normal people is $1000 in IOS musician land.

Conversely $10 worth of IOS Music apps = $1000 in WIN/OSX Music Apps

Of course I expect it to be like many recent Apple Accessories, and only work with lastest IOS 9.2 or newer.

As I predicted - this new Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter will NOT work with any IOS device which does not have IOS 9.0 MINIMUM.

Ive been sticking with IOS 8.4.1 for my iPhone 6 Plus, and not interested in updating to IOS 9 just yet

I have two iPad AIR2's  - the one on IOS 8.1 reports "Accessory not Compatible"

the one iPad AIR2 with IOS 9.1 works  - but i'm updating it now to IOS 9.3 to be my "guinea pig" for further testing .

But there is a disturbing trend at Apple of releasing new hardware accessories, but the fine print in the documentation states ( Must be running latest Operating system version )  - case in point the new Magic Mouse and Bluetooth Keyboard with built in rechargeable batteries

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7283052?tstart=0
- both look just like last years model  - except they only work on Macs running OSX 10.11 El Capitan.

Same conditions with the new Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter - it only works if you have IOS 9 (or newer) installed on your iPad.

I went ahead and upgraded my iPhone 6 Plus, and two iPad AIR2's to IOS 9.3

It works with iPhone 6 Plus, finally can Power and charge any connected iPhone or iPad that is running IOS 9.3 -and it works with USB Hubs

I had hoped the Focusrite Scarlet 2i4 would work right away, but so far not having any luck

Testing continues.

Ok better news

The new Lightning USB3 adapter allows the iPad  / iPhone 6 Plus to be charging during use.

So far these all work

Fender Slide (Audio)
Fender FTP Strat (Audio) and FTP Dongle (MIDI)
Roland US-22 Duo Capture EX (Audio and MIDI)
Roland UM One MK2 (MIDI)

Sadly the Focusrite Scarlet 2i4 still requires the special USB Power Y cord and additional power supply. https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=9581.msg74428#msg74428

QuoteToo bad the Scarlett doesn't work

It does- but Scarlett still requires its own separate power supply

QuoteThe best news in the announcement today, though, you could be forgiven for missing. The iPad Pro (both models) gets an accessory that's called this:

Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter

Let me translate that into English for you. It's a
"Lightning to USB audio and MIDI accessory adapter that doesn't drain your battery while you use it because you can finally plug in a #$*(&ing power supply at the same time"

The "Camera" adapters for iOS are some of the most useful devices on the platform, because all sorts of audio and MIDI gadgets work with them. But since they use up the Lightning port, until now, you have to watch your battery when you used them. This fixes that, it seems. We'll have to do some research to see how much power it provides and what accessories work with it, but it's good news.

Tools like the iPad have brought us lots of nice new things – day-long batteries, ultra-thin lightweight devices, beautiful touchable apps, less time spent troubleshooting. But then they've also forced us to make weird choices. Do you want electricity or do you want accessories. (Um, both? Wait, what?!)

And so it is that I'm writing this piece of news. Now, you can plug into a wall for electricity! (Wow!) And, you can use USB accessories! And you don't have to choose!

We knew this should work in theory, but it was time to test it in real life. Here, Christian Blomert (a developer behind touchAble and Modstep) demonstrates that you can now plug a single dongle into the iPad's Lightning port, and get:

1. USB for bus-powered accessories.
2. Power (via a second Lightning port) for your iPad.

Where wonders never cease.

Some USB gadgets will need more power, and of course if you want more than one USB accessory, you'll want a hub. But in the past, even that wasn't a solution, because the Lightning-to-USB connection blocked the use of that same port for power.

Also good: Apple says the accessory is compatible with any iPad with a Lightning connection. (30-pin adapters should work, too, but then I've seen third-party accessories already that do what this does for 30-pin.)

Now, let commenters say I'm hyping this up. They're right, of course. (Next time on CDM, watch me plug a hairdryer into a wall!)

US$39.

But that's okay, I've got some instant ramen here and now look forward to some extended production time. Go:

Oh yes, quite familiar with that.

Just saying that in the AB forum, there were people arguing over whether the Mersenne app was worth $3 of their precious money.

Not $300.  Not $30.

$3!!!

Hey this thing actually works pretty well. Just one problem I'm facing , powering iPad ,trio + and gp10 with an external battery (http://www.amazon.com/Anker-20000mAh-Multi-Voltage-Technology-Smartphones/dp/B005NGLTZQ). This is almost a mind blowing rig but am getting a hum in the signal I'm getting some kind of ground loop since I'm powering multiple devices from the same source. Any one have any idea on how to fix this?

There will be limits to what you can power with one battery.
