Hi everyone,
I have been following and contributing to this site for quite a while now, long enough to know that it is arguably the best collection of tech-savvy, forward-thinking guitarists [musicians!] around. So naturally this is the perfect place to find users who may be interested in helping us on a little project we are about to release...

We are in beta phase on the production of an iPad effects-processing/live-audio manipulating sound design app called FLUX:FX, made in conjunction with future-guitarist extraordinaire Adrian Belew [no stranger to members of this forum as a lifelong guitar-synth exponent] and audio tech Daniel Rowland. It is being built in Amsterdam, NL by a small but badass team  :)    Long story how the project got started, but it involves whisky!

Some of the preliminary explanation of the app:
Discussions over the creation of abstract guitar sounds led to the idea of a new type of touch-screen controlled, 'authentically digital' effects processor. Instead of recreating the standard amplifiers and pedals as most other apps are doing, the idea was to take inspiration from some of the most innovative musical equipment such as the Korg Kaoss pads, Roger Linn Adrenalinn, Alesis Bitrman, the modular flexibility of the Fractal Axe-fx or Roland VG-99 and the waveshaping possibilities of the Kurzweil KDFX [to name just a few].

If you are looking for that creamy Marshall or classic Fender twin tone... you are in the wrong place. FLUX:FX is about redesigning your sound and creating something completely new. The focus is on digital processing such as bitcrushing, looping/stuttering, resonators etc, with XY touch, built-in sequencer or MIDI control of pretty much everything.

Ignoring the 'traditional' approach that most software takes to control [where the dials and switches of amps or pedals are simulated], the FLUX:FX has a completely flexible touch interface that is native to the touchscreen. The controls are highly functional and efficient, focussing on ease of performance without sacrificing the ability to edit and tweak every parameter.

SO,
This is a call for anyone with an iPad2 or later [ios7+] who wants to be involved as a beta tester or sound designer [ie. to make awesome presets]. Any fellow V-Guitarists out there who want to get involved? Hit me up with a PM and your email address!

We will be sending out the latest build to the accepted beta-testers early next week. In addition, if any v-guitarists are in Amsterdam or can get here for the 29th July, we will be having a (pre) launch event with Adrian himself demoing the app at the Paradiso. The link to register for [free] entry is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/684113554975155/

Would love to see some of you there if you can make it!

Now I'm wondering how much ground I could cover with this app running in the FX loop of a KPA.  Probably much of what's just brought me back to the GR55.  And that would in turn bring me back to the GP10 for COSM instruments...  Round and round she goes, where she stops nobody knows.

Man, I sure slept on this one - I could have had some fun as a beta tester.

Looking forward to playing with the officially released app though!

Not sure how I managed to miss this either, but this app looks amazing. I'll definitely be watching for it in the App Store.

Release in the appstore will be tomorrow. I will be very interested to hear all of your feedback now that the app is out of beta.

We did quite some testing in Adrian's studio in Nashville - Oh, the toys! the toys!

QuoteJust as an FYI - this project is now live and getting some pretty good reviews. Adrian has included a sizeable amount of studio/instrument/technique info per track which is interesting.

Too late - already purchased "Flux by Belew - never the same twice" by Mobile Generation

But I was expecting more of a real time controller I can use for guitar  - not another music player alternative. ??

Extremely confusing

Flux FX is a stellar FX app at $19.99.

Hey cell7.  Do you have promo codes for the Flux by Belew "Never the Same Twice" app, or the Flux:FX app?  With apologies for being probably your least active beta tester to date :( ... I'd love a promo code for the Never the Same Twice app!

I have to agree, the names are a bit confusing - even if you know the difference, they're hard to talk about.  I guess the effects package should be referred to as Flux:FX and Belew's interactive music package as simply Flux?

I may actually have you beat, and feel badly about that. Hopefully I'll do better for any future release testing.

Mostly just wanted to say that this is a very cool, well done app!  Definitely worth checking out.

Also the fact both apps use a similar looking graphic for the main opening screen does not help either.

Never knew there were two separate apps named "Flux by Adrian Belew" until i purchased the wrong one this morning , and never found the real time controls depicted in the YouTube demos above. ;(

Apologies about that.. let me try to clarify:

one app is the 'artwork' called FLUX by belew™ - http://bit.ly/getfluxapp
This is Adrian's own tunes/audio snippets/artwork put together into an app platform.

the second app is the 'paintbrush' or processor called FLUX:FX - http://bit.ly/flux_fx
This is his construction box of audio FX blocks to make some of his crazy sounds. Effects chain, XY control, MIDI, AB, IAA, sequencer etc etc

I can understand the confusion but hope that it will be clearer now that both are actually available. The connection was intentional by Adrian as they go together as part of a 'FLUX [app] strategy' which includes a new way of performing his music live.

@SuperNiCd and @mbenigni - yes, you guys were pretty silent as beta testers! Then again, you were using a very early version of the app... it is significantly better now. Plus it has a truckload of preset performances.
Anyway, the codes are for FLUX:FX - the multieffects processor.
@elantric, did you already purchase the FX app?

Well, my silence had everything to do with available time, and nothing to do with any deficiency in the app.  I actually thought the early tester version was super cool, so, WOW, can't wait to check out the release version!!
