General Specs of the ToneWoodAmp
Inputs and outputs: the TWAmp has one 1/4? input (from guitar), one 1/4? output (to amp or P.A.) and one 1/8? TRRS I/O for iDevice (and other devices).

Effects: Built-in 8 effects: 3 types of Reverb, Delay, Tremolo/Delay, Leslie style Tremolo, Auto-Wah and Overdrive. Chorus is under development.

Effect parameters: each effect has three parameters. For example, the delay/echo effect has the following: Speed, Regenerate and Reverb.

Save/recall of effect settings: there are 10 memory locations for each effect where you can store/recall favorite effect settings.

Power: 3 AA batteries hold for an average of 8 hours.

Amazing Amp-less Acoustic Experience
The ToneWoodAmp uses a clever combination of powerful DSP (digital signal processor) and surface exciter. Attached to the back of your acoustic guitar, the device vibrates the back of your instrument, producing sound effects such as reverb, echo, delay, tremolo and more, which interact with the natural sound of your guitar. The result is a unique soundscape coming from within the body of the guitar itself, while still maintaining the guitar's natural beauty, original tone, and untethered portability.

I'm impressed - I placed an order yesterday after seeing this video

Really? I was excited by the acoustic transducer stuff idea but the actual effect ended up a bit 'meh' to me.

That video serves more as a demo of MG2 than anything else - it still needs the guitar to have a pickup and if you're using the tonewood as an interface you don't need the dsp as you'd be better served by other iOS 3rd party apps - free Tones tack offers far more. So unless you're blown away by the transducer acoustic stuff I can't see why you wouldn't be better off with a much cheaper interface to gain guitar to midi etc.for your acoustic

Missing the point

There are numerous open mic performance  opportunities for acoustic guitarists and often they prohibit amplified instruments (despite most acoustic guitars sold today provide built in pickups and qualify as electric guitars )

I could have used this last month when I was on KPIG Radio, where they only want live acoustic in studio performances

I prefer this to the similar Yamaha system announced at 2016 Muikmesse

Sorry if resurrecting this is not the right thing to do. I just wanted to know what you thought of the ToneWood Amp?? Elentric, you mentioned ordering one. Did it work well for you?

I am also thinking of ordering one. There's the simple uses of adding reverb and so forth to standard playing. I didn't realize until today that it could also be used for midi Have you experimented with the midi yet? How did you find that?

Thanks!

Its a clever box, that might be more conversation piece than a tool

helpful when you jam with others who are rigid in their ways: "must be pure acoustic / no electric guitars"

Not aware of any Guitar to MIDI function

Its supports external FX  - watch the videos for all details

I've watched every video they have and read the manual front to back. I'm pretty interested but, I too was wondering how useful the tools actually is. Could be pretty cool for the busking crowd, but I'm not a busker.

As far as midi (virtual midi??), here's what I was referring to;

In addition to the ToneWoodAmp's internal DSP, the device can also connect with all iDevices, so you can use your iPhone, iPad etc. to experiment with an unlimited number of effects, and even play Virtual MIDI instruments from within the body of your guitar itself.

VERY misleading...the suggestion is you NEED the Tonewood to play the midi instruments which is blatantly untrue. They're actually using Jam Origin's Midi Guitar 2 here. The Tone wood has NOTHING to do with the MIDI or it's tracking - it's the guitars stock pickup going out to iPad into MG2 then into whatever virtual instruments loaded and the synth audio is then fed back into the Tonewood aux in to be reproduced through the resonating of the guitar body.

Convoluted? Yes. Pointless? Debatable. Misleading? Very, to the point of advertising standards almost...

Carbonius

I didn't find it misleading myself. They don't claim it is the only way to play MIDI through an acoustic. If you want to play MIDI without amps or a sound system or any other MIDI device, then you do need the Tonewood Amp. I believe it's the only thing out there right now that will let you play whatever you want to through your guitar acoustically. It's pretty cool. You could play this out and about with very little external gear and no wall warts required.

Carbonius

That's not the point. With this your guitar IS the amp. The tones are being amplified through your guitar, which ads the natural acoustic tones that are always missing from pure digital signals.

The ToneWoodAmp update utility can be found at https://www.tonewoodamp.com/updates/files/

This update utility can be used to update the firmware of your TWA to the latest version (2.69), to revert to factory settings, or to install Chorus.

You'll need a micro USB data transfer/sync cable with a connector long enough to fit into the USB port on TWA underneath the output jack.

A USB cable with an 8mm tip will work.

To perform an update, download, unzip, and open the TWA Update Utility. Power on and plug in your TWA via the USB port under the output jack, and follow the onscreen directions.

Windows 7 or 8 users please note that you'll be required to manually install TWA's drivers to run the update. You can find instructions on manually installing drivers here.
