That'll be a fun project for this evening!

Regarding the "compliant" output ...

How about an Arduino or Raspberry Pi (or something even simpler) taking the Boss/Roland "Near Compliant" input, and translating that to "Is Compliant?" Such a device could be the size of a cigarette pack  or smaller ...

That might work - but the Arduino developer must have access to the USB Class Compliant MIDI code and make modifications to suit one device ( the Boss GP-10)  - (or if he's smart)  - make a device which accepts the USB cable from Boss GT-001, Boss GP-10, Boss ME-80, and performs conversion to 5pin DIN MIDI I/O

Now THAT sounds like a very doable and  worthwhile project for someone with more free time than I ;)

Edit:

Member "LouLea" discovered this actually works with Raspberry Pi  - thanks to the RPI's built in Jack Audio Linux code

Read details here for adding 5 pin MIDI I/O to Boss GP-10 using the $35 RPI + a $15 USB <> MIDI Cable

A bit off topic, but Tonight I will install the official Roland GP-10 USB Driver and Boss Tone Studio on my old 2009 Dell Inspiron Duo convertible 10 inch touchscreen netbook / tablet PC running Win7

I have reported  my results here:

OK - there is more to the equation than simply "Use an Android device running Android  KitKat Version 4.4.x"

My 2012 Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was recently updated to Android  KitKat Version 4.4.2 - yet I can report that  Boss GP-10 MIDI over USB communications with USB OTG adapter - DOES NOT WORK.

So this appears to be device specific. We have reports from Spider that the following devices do work and receive Boss GP-10 MIDI over USB communications with USB OTG adapter.

* NEXUS 7 with Android 4.4.4 (not clear if this is the latest Nexus7 (1920x1080 screen), or 1st generation (1280 x 768 screen)

* Sony Xperia Z with Android 4.4.3

Could it be that the usb settings on the gp-10 make a difference? It looks like there is a standard mode for the usb routing. The VG99 was also only usb class compliant for the audio in standard mode. May be worth a try...

Elantric

I have tried all available settings on GP-10.

Unlike VG-99, there is no "standard USB driver" mode" on Boss GP-10.

All I see on Boss GP-10 which seems relevant is MIDI  = ON /OFF, I have enabled MIDI ON mode.

I'm disappointed,(as I'm sure many of you are!), that the GP10 has no 5-pin MIDI out. That being said, it's my understanding that it's USB
out is MIDI class compliant. That being the case, I'm wondering has anyone tried using the GP10 in standalone to drive hardware synths using a USB to MIDI converter such as Kenton's MIDI USB Host or first gen iConnectivity? And, if so, what's the tracking like compared to say the GI-20,(which I have good success with), and the GR-55's external tracking?

Read posts above.

And the Raspberry Pi $35 solution.

I think I'm going to give my Toshiba Encore a try here.  I've got the tiny 7" one - it runs normal Windows 8.1.  It will require a hub to pull it off due to the lack of available usb ports.  They're $119.  That's certainly more than $35 for the Raspberry Pi but you're not done there either if you have to buy a power switch for and some sort of housing as well.

In reference to the iPad you can can run the GP-10 into iPhones and iPads by using the "Midi Guitar" app. I am coming out of the direct guitar out from the GP-16 to the iPhone running IK SampleTank. You have the 1. GP-10 sound 2. The guitar pickups sound and 3. Full orchestra sounds thru my iPhone 4S. You can then come back into the aux in on the GP-10 and send all sounds out thru the GP-10 output. I also use a volume pedal between the iPhone and the GP-10 aux in to control levels and on off of the orchestra sounds. It tracks very well and the more powerful processor (iPhone 6 or iPad 3) it tracks as close as the gk3 pickup on some sounds. You can even turn the guitar pickups off in the GP-10 and have only orchestra or use the volume pedal on the GP-10 to balance between all sounds.

What are you using for your iPad Audio Interface?

The IPhone and IPad are using the Midi Guitar app by Jam Guitar to convert to midi (I have used both a Jam audio interface and am now using a Griffin Studioconnect to get the signal in) and then the IK SampleTank to create the orchestra sounds inside the iOS devices. The Griffin Studioconnect sends the processed audio back to the Gp-10. Basically any device that sends signal into the iOS device gets converted to midi signal by the Midi Guitar app to be processed by programs.

Sorry one more thing to add, the Jam app will even convert the iOS on board mic to midi. I haven't tried to use use it with Garage Band app but I think it works with it too I can't remember. If I get a chance I will try it but the IK Multimedia SampleTank so great because you can have up to four parts at a time ie; strings, horns, organ and choir all at the same time. It becomes a wall of sound!

QuoteThe app is by Jam Origin they also make it PC and Mac OS.
