I know these are old and discontinued but I bought one new in 99' or so and still own it. Was wondering if there is any love for it on these forums. I still think it's some of the best modelling I've heard.

I've never been able to find one on the used market because Allan Holdsworth loves them and hence a lot of his fans buy them as soon as they become available.  I love Allan's tone and though a lot of it is his hands many have felt the DG helps him achieve that tone.

The DG-80 basically nails the Boogie tone he was known for from his "Secrets" record.

Trivia - In 1996  -Gary Cook in Los Angeles  was a Roland Artist support specialist  - he helped both Joni Mitchell and Sting with their Roland VG-8's  and was a member of Aure's old VG-8.com - back when Roland US had employees participate on public forums.

Around 1998, Gary was hired by Yamaha, specifically to support the Yamaha DG (Digital Guitar) Amps which employed DSPs

Gary now works freelance as a  composer . Roland US hires him from time to time - Gary created detailed video series for Roland Cube-60 COSM amps  and MICRO-CUBES.  I saw him last at 2012 NAMM working the Roland booth.

Its also worth noting that the DSP team at Korg was highly effective with ground floor tube amp modeling DSP code - I have Guitar amp models in my old Korg 168RC mixer and a great leslie speaker  - all MIDI  controllable too.

Behind the scenes there exists long standing relationships between Yamaha and Korg  . Korg DSP engineer team has written the the DSP code algorithms for many popular Guitar amp Modeling products over the years and into the present day.

Read the wiki about Korg  ( they own VOX, and a high percent Blackstar - explains why both are at the Korg booth at NAMM show )

Yamaha owns Steinberg  - Today the old DG-80 Amp experience can be heard and seen with the recent Steinberg UR-44 audio interface with DSP amp modeling. Long time Yamaha DG-80 users might see familiar controls in some the UR-44 amp modeling menus, also Korg PX4D, and YAMAHA GUI for THR-5/ THR-10

I thought about selling it over the years but these were expensive new (1k) and the thought of just getting 300$ or whatever seemed not worth it. It's proven too be reliable and consistent. I've done hundreds of gigs with it.
I'd like to convert it into a head though. Those poor electronics subjected to all that vibration over the years.

I have a pair of DG80 112s and a pair of DG130 heads.  I like them very much and they are not for sale.

However, my DG80 112's have gradually been replaced by my Cube 60's in most applications.  I don't think the Cube 60 sounds better, but it's good enough, and a Cube 60 is nearly half the weight of a DG80 112.

Yea. At around 50 lbs these things are heavy

55 lbs.  Plus another few pounds for the obligatory midi foot switch... Still not as heavy as Roland's GA212!  ;)
