I've tried for a month to use the Roland Librarian and the GR-55 Floorboard and with both all my Saves and Exports are not visible to Windows 7 only to these Apps.  With Floorboard I created a new folder in 'Saved Patches' I named 'Rex Patches' but that folder is locked and invisible to my OS, ditto with Roland Librarian.

Probably the only one unique to this issue (I can save and load but I'm afraid to try in fear of losing my own presets)
I simply cannot point to my own .G5l patches for sharing, thus rendering the whole midi librarian concept unusable.

Does your computer have account restrictions? Such as the need to log-on with administartor priviledges.
Another issue might be the Folder View setting, from your 'File Explorer', click on 'Tools' and 'Folder Options', and change settings to suit.
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

Also Be sure to un-click "Hide file extensions", in Windows Explorer folder properties.

Windows  -  fixing the "10 USB driver install limit" issue with Roland/Boss USB Drivers for Windows

PROBLEMS INSTALLING USB DRIVERS IN WINDOWS
Tags: driver, usb, xv-2020, r-1, ua-5, ua-20, ua-25, ua-1ex, ua-1000, ua-101, r-9
The can be several reasons why a USB driver may appear to not be installed correctly in Windows. Here are some things to check.

You may have installed it but not selected it. Be sure to check Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio and see if the USB Audio Device is selected as the default Input and Output. If it's found there, it should also be available in your recording software.

If the interface does not appear in your recording software, it may be that your USB cable is bad (replace it) or that you have reached a "device limit" in Windows. This is characterized by USB drivers appearing to be installed correctly but not seeing audio or MIDI ports in recording software. The problem is caused by a 10 USB driver limitation in Windows XP/2000.

USB Driver Limitation Solution:

1. Click on "Start" and choose "Run," then type in "cmd" as the command line. Click "OK" and a DOS prompt will open.

2. Type the following commands one line at a time, hitting enter after each:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

start devmgmt.msc

3. The Device Manager will now open up, so click on the View menu and choose "Show Hidden Devices." Look through the device manager carefully and note that there are a lot of drivers with a kind of translucent colored icon next to them. These are what are called "ghosting" or otherwise nonpresent drivers your computer is remembering in case you were to ever use the device again later. They can also be drivers that do system functions and are hidden by default, or partially installed or corrupted driver install attempts, all sorts of things really.

Look under these categories in particular:

+Human Interface Devices
+Other Devices
+Sound, video and game controllers
+Universal serial bus controllers

4. Uninstall any driver that shouldn't be there, but pay particular attention to things like these:

USB Composite Device
Composite USB Device
USB Audio Device
USB Human Interface Device
USB Device
Unknown Device

*3rd party USB drivers no longer in use or installed multiple times.

*Edirol drivers you are having problems installing.

Delete these or any driver duplicates and then restart your computer.

5. After you have completed these instructions your Roland/Edirol USB driver should be reinstalled to end the procedure. MIDI and audio ports will then be visible in your software.

Hello,

I am new on VG guitar forums. great source of information and exchange platform. :)
I have a GR55 and bought a Roland UM-ONE USB midi cable in order to work with GR librarian and floorboard installed on OS X 10 Yosemite.
I installed the UM-ONE with success following carefully the installation procedure.
Regarding the GR55 driver, I had a message telling me that it has been successfully installed but the midi studio did not show the GR55 (the same in audio setup). I tried ti follow the procedure explained in the doc: MIDI re-initialization but it did not work.
I decided to uninstalled bu there is no uninstallation soft included in the pack  ??? so I deleted the BOSS file related to the GR55 USB driver. Tried to re-install many times...I think I have read all the valuable suggestions I could find on the forum but no success.
I am really stuck....did some body met the same problem? ...any advises?

Why use the UM-ONE when the GR-55 connects via USB to provide USB Audio and Midi, the UM-ONE is not required.
When installing the GR-55 USB driver, is the GR-55 USB being plugged in to the computer?
Your midi and audio devices in your software will show as "GR-55"

Thanks for your message Gumtown. I thought M-ONE was required to use the GR55 librarian....if not required, so I spent 38 euros for nothing as I had already a USB cable. :(

Anyway, when I installed the GR55 driver, I had nothing plugged in the computer as mentioned in the GR55 read me file.
I checked afterwards in the Application menu: I see indeed the BOSS file included a GR55 driver file...I see also the GR55 driver parameter in "system preferences": Everything looks like the driver is installed.
However, in "system preferences", when I click on "sound", I see no trace of GR55 (like in the MIDI studio).

________________________

I tried today with a USB cable and everything worked fine. GR55 was visible in both MIDI studio and Audio settings.
Thanks for your advice. Synth and MIDI world is new for me.

I've attempted driver setup for Windows 7 multiple times now.  Norton declares a .dll file at a threat and deletes it.  Any clues as to what is wrong and how to get around it?

Thanks!

Be sure you are obtaining your Roland GR-55 USB Driver from Roland

http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=GR-55

Must follow the exact instructions for installing the Roland  USB Driver for your Operating System. This is available as a "Read_Me.HTML" file contained inside the Roland USB Driver Zip file

Or click here for a PDF version
Win7 Install Instructions (pdf)

Oskykid

Definitely from Roland.  I used the links provided in this thread.  I had no problem with the library software, just the driver.

Oskykid

The specific file it removes as a threat is RDA51113.DLL

Oskykid

I got some help from Norton - and I had to temporarily shut security down.  Success!

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP HomeEdition
*Librarian does not support Windows(R) XP Media Center Edition.

Others
A computer with a USB connector that supports USB Specification Revision 2.0 or later.
Adobe Reader (available free of charge) is required in order to view the online manual.

* Although Roland has tested numerous configurations, and has determined that on average, a computer system similar to that described above will permit normal operation of the GR-55 Librarian, Roland cannot guarantee that a given computer can be used satisfactorily with the GR-55 Librarian based solely on the fact that it meets the above requirements. This is because there are too many other variables that may influence the processing environment, including differences in motherboard design and the particular combination of other devices involved.

Cautions and Limitations

Sound interruption or other less-than-perfect outcomes may be experienced if your computer's performance and specifications are somewhat inadequate. The types of applications you use and the way in which you use them can also influence the experience you receive.
If the PC is started up while the GR-55 is still connected to the PC with its power turned on, the driver may not be loaded properly and you may not be able to use the GR-55. In such cases, connect the GR-55 to another USB port or turn on the power of GR-55 after the PC starts up.
If the GR-55 does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the GR-55, and then turn the power of the GR-55 off and on again.
If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the GR-55 is in use, or if the power of the GR-55 is turned off, then on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications that use the GR-55, and turn the power of the GR-55 off, then on again.
If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network while the GR-55 was being used, the GR-55 may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the GR-55, then turn the GR-55 off and then on again.
Audio clicks and pops may occur during playback or recording if you connect or disconnect other USB devices (such as USB memory) or turn another USB device on/off while using the GR-55.
In some cases, you may not obtain the expected level of performance if you're using a USB-connected hard disk at the same time as the GR-55. Do not use a USB-connected hard disk as the storage destination for the audio that you're playing back or recording.
Installation

*   To reinstall or update the driver, refer to "To reinstall."
Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, and then start Windows.
Check that the computer is connected to the Internet.
On Windows, close the "Sound" settings screen of the Control Panel and all running applications.
Turn on the power of GR-55 and connect it to the computer using a USB cable.
The driver will be installed automatically.
After several minutes, click the start button and then click "All apps".
Open the Roland folder. If the "GR-55" icon is displayed, the installation is completed.
*   Under normal conditions, the driver installation is completed in several minutes. It may take about 10 minutes depending on the Internet connectivity or if there are other drivers being installed for other devices.
*   A problem may have occurred if GR-55 is connected but cannot be used after waiting for 10 minutes.Refer to "Troubleshooting."

To modify the settings, make the changes and click [OK]. To simply check the settings, be sure to click [Cancel] after viewing the settings.
*   For details on the setting items, refer to "About the items in the Settings dialog box."
About the items in the Settings dialog box

Audio Buffer Size
You can adjust the audio input/output buffer size. (By default, this will be the sixth position from the left.)
Decreasing the buffer size will shorten the latency and improve realtime performance, but might make it more likely that you will experience audio clicks and pops, depending on your computer's processing power and the song data load.
Increasing the buffer size will lengthen the latency, but will make audio streaming more stable, and it will be less likely for audio clicks and pops to occur.
In general, you'll probably want to decrease the buffer size for better realtime performance if you're playing a software synthesizer in real time, or if you're monitoring an audio input that's being passed through your DAW software.
Conversely, you can increase the buffer size to prevent audio clicks and pops if you're recording or playing back song data that contains numerous tracks and presents a heavy processing load.
By changing the buffer size as appropriate for your situation, you can obtain the right balance between realtime performance and audio streaming stability.
* Note!
If you use an application with an audio equipment test function, after changing the buffer size, carry out a test.

ASIO Buffer Size
This is the minimum buffer size that can be set by the ASIO application.
*   Depending on the application you're using, there may be other buffer sizes that can be set in addition to the minimum buffer size, and the buffer size shown here might not match the actual buffer size.
For details on setting and checking the buffer size, refer to the owner's manual for your application.

"Use Smaller ASIO Buffer Size" check box
If this check box is selected, the buffer size when using ASIO-compatible applications will be made smaller.
If you experience pops or clicks when this check box is selected, deselect this check box.
*   You must deselect this check box when adjusting the "Audio Buffer Size."

"Show README" button
This button displays the README file (this document).

Information
This field shows the driver version.
To reinstall

Delete the driver as described in "To uninstall."
*   When you uninstall, the settings of the Driver Settings dialog box will be initialized. For details on the setting items, refer to "About the items in the Settings dialog box."
Install the driver as described in "Installation."
To uninstall

Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, and then start Windows.
*   Be sure to also remove the GR-55's USB cable.

Was the driver installed correctly?
The driver may not be installed properly.See the "Cannot install the driver" section.
If you cannot use GR-55 after the driver is installed, reinstall the driver by following the procedure described in the "To reinstall" section.

Could the GR-55 be in use by other software?
Exit all applications that are using the GR-55, and turn the power of the GR-55 off, then on again.
If this does not solve the problem, use the procedure described in "To reinstall" to reinstall the driver.

Is the GR-55 WAVE/MIDI device name displayed?
If the device name is not displayed, exit all applications that are using the GR-55, and turn the power of the GR-55 off, then on again.
If this does not solve the problem, use the procedure described in "To reinstall" to reinstall the driver.

Did the computer enter a Sleep mode while the GR-55 was connected with its power turned on?
If the GR-55 does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the GR-55, and then turn the power of the GR-55 off and on again.

Was the USB cable disconnected and reconnected while the GR-55 was being used, or was the power of the GR-55 turned off, then on again?
If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the GR-55 is in use, or if the power of the GR-55 is turned off, then on again, it may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, exit all applications that are using the GR-55, and turn the power of the GR-55 off, then on again.

In such cases, connect the GR-55 to another USB port or turn on the power of GR-55 after the PC starts up.

A number such as "2-" is now displayed at the beginning of the device name

Could you have connected the GR-55 to a different USB port?
If you connect the GR-55 to a different USB port, the operating system may automatically add a number to the beginning of the device name.
Even if this occurs, it will not cause any problems with the operation of the GR-55.
*   If you want to restore the device name that does not have this added number, connect the GR-55 to the same USB port as when you installed it, or reinstall the driver as described in "To reinstall."
The screen indicates "Device currently used by another application." and driver settings cannot be made

Are you using another application?
The driver settings cannot be changed while it is being used by an application.

If the Windows monitoring function is enabled, it won't be possible to change the driver settings.
Refer to "Could the Windows monitoring function be enabled?" and disable monitoring.

No sound is heard; cannot playback or record

Was the driver installed correctly?

Could the GR-55 be in use by other software?

Did you make settings as described in "Before you begin" so that the GR-55 driver could be used?
The GR-55 cannot be used unless you make these settings. Refer to the sections on "Before you begin."

Could you have entered Sleep mode during playback or recording?
If the GR-55 does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the GR-55, and then turn the power of the GR-55 off and on again.

During playback or recording, did you turn the power of the GR-55 on/off, or disconnect and reconnect the USB cable?
If you turn the power of the GR-55 on/off or disconnect and reconnect the USB cable during playback or recording, the GR-55 will no longer be able to play back or record. Stop playback or recording, and then start playback or recording once again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the GR-55, then turn the GR-55 off and then on again.

Try adjusting the audio buffer size of the driver
If the size of the driver's audio buffer is too small, sound may not be produced, or it may be impossible to carry out normal playback and recording.
In such cases, you should refer to "Changing/checking driver settings," and increase the size of the buffer.

Sound played by your computer is inaudible or too soft

Could you have turned down the volume of the device or application in the Volume Mixer?
The system's Volume Mixer lets you adjust the volume for each device or application.
Open the "Control Panel," and switch "View by:" to "Category."
Click "Hardware and Sound," and then click "Adjust system volume."
The Volume Mixer will appear. From the "Device" pulldown menu, choose the device that you're using for playback, and adjust the volume.
*   Alternatively you can open the Volume Mixer by right-clicking the speaker icon located in the lower right of the Desktop and choosing "Open Volume Mixer."
Are you using voice communications software?
If you're using voice communications software, the volume of the audio device might be automatically adjusted according to the status of communications.
If so, disable automatic volume adjustment as follows.
Open "Control Panel," click "Hardware and Sound," and then click "Sound."
*   If the icon view is selected for the Control Panel, click "Sound."
In the "Communications" tab, change the setting of the item "When Windows detects communications activity" to "Do nothing."
Click [OK] to close "Sound."
Part of the playback is wrong: e.g., notes are broken off prematurely, or some notes are lost

Problems may be solved by making the settings shown below.

Try adjusting the audio buffer size of your software
If your software allows you to adjust the audio buffer size, try changing the setting.
Normally, clicks and pops can be eliminated by increasing the buffer size.

Try adjusting the audio buffer size of the driver
If your software does not allow you to adjust the buffer size, or if adjusting the buffer size in your software does not solve the problem, you may be able to solve the problem by changing the driver's audio input/output buffer size.
Try adjusting the buffer size as described in "Changing/checking driver settings."

Try updating the driver of your display adaptor
You may be able to eliminate clicks and pops by updating the driver for the display adaptor installed in your computer.

Windows Update / Microsoft Update
You may be able to solve the problem by updating your system with "Windows Update" or "Microsoft Update" provided by Microsoft.

Click [Settings] of the Performance section, and then click the [Advanced] tab.
Select "Background services," and click [OK].
Click [OK] to close "System Properties."
Do the sample rate settings match?
You must set the sampling frequency that's been specified through the audio settings of the application so it matches the GR-55's sampling frequency.

Could the Windows monitoring function be enabled?
If the Windows monitoring function is enabled, the input sound might be heard in duplicate (doubled), or a feedback loop (oscillation) might occur.
If so, disable the Windows monitoring function as follows.
Open "Control Panel," click "Hardware and Sound," and then click "Sound."
*   If the icon view is selected for the Control Panel, click "Sound."
In "Recording," select GR-55's "IN," and click "Properties."

Click [OK] to close "Properties."
Click [OK] to close "Sound."
Audio clicks and pops occur in the playback or recording immediately after the system has started up, or immediately after the computer has been woken from a Sleep state
Wait a few moments before you perform playback or recording.

Clicks or pops may occur in the sound if a LAN is operating
Try disabling the LAN in the Device Manager.

Playback or recording is interrupted, and then you cannot resume playback or recording

Was your computer experiencing a heavy processing load?
If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load while the GR-55 was being used, the GR-55 may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again.
If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the GR-55, then turn the GR-55 off and then on again.

HecticArt

I swear to the gods above, I'm booking a flight to Japan, and slapping someone at Roland.
The Win 10 driver is complete junk, and it's beyond me how a company like this can't get something so basic worked out.
I've gone through the instructions several times. Completely uninstalled the drivers and ghosts. Wasted several hours, and the Librarian still crashes every time I click on a patch. It loads them all off of the 55 properly, so it's making the connection, but it's dead after that. I haven't been this frustrated trying to install something since DOS.
I'm glad I saved my Win 7 laptop. Shame on you Roland.

My apologies for the rant.

nobeil

I am having trouble with Librarian. It opens fine. I reads the patches fine. But if I click to highlight a patch windows pops up a window that librarian has stopped working and will shutdown the program. Running windows 10. Any one have a fix for this?

The GR-55 driver is working fine as well as Floorboard (an awesome program!). But Librarian keeps crashing when I try to highlight a patch. Frustrating :/

Thanks for any help in advance.

HecticArt

I got the Roland drivers sorted out, and Floorboard up and running on my Win 10 machine!
I'm still not happy with Roland's lack of attention to supporting the drivers, but that's a different story.

Now that I have Floorboard running like a champ, I'm having the same issue with the librarian that nobeil is having. The Librarian keeps crashing. Anybody else run into this?

Perhaps other GR-55 with Windows 10 users  will comment.
(No Windows 10 here )
