Hi guys. This is way off topic but the forum has such a rich source of experience...

I use a little Sandisc Clip voice recorder to capture song ideas wherever I am. Cheap, & the size of a matchbox. It's finally worn out. Any better suggestions bef I order another one? Sound quality doesn't matter too much - just light & simple to use. Thanks.

My phone has a built in recorder, called Voice Memos. I have used it at gigs for announcements when the casino boss didn't want to hang around to announce the talent. Works great and the files can be exported. I think it came on my iPhone free.

I always have my iPhone and there are many recorder apps for IOS.

However, I also always carry a Sanyo ICR-XPS01M (catchy name eh?) - as I was scanning BensBargains.com last year and Buy.com was selling them for $69

I love it because its very small, stereo, decent recording options. - Note these are popular and no longer available, and can go for $250 today

MF has a used one for $80

To comprehend its diminutive small size, Here it is laying on top of a CD case. Its 3.78" x 1.52" x 0.39" and has a 6 hour Li-Ion re-chargable battery.

It can record very high decibel Rock concerts in 16bit stereo Wave or MP3 to a 32GB Micro SD card. - it can hold many many hours of audio.

I also use a Zoom H2N and record all my live gigs and rehearsals with that , but its a bit more bulky.

I've used this one quite a bit over the last few years, and it has been very good.  The only issue has been battery life, which is a bit low.  It also does not seem to like close mic'ing guitar amps with the built in mics.  It works extremely well as a standalone recorder at FOH on a mic stand.

Get the Zoom H4N.  Best bang for your buck.  Has two really good stereo pattern condenser mics plus two additional inputs that can phantom power additional mics and can record on 4 seperate tracks.  Uses SD card storage or USB to your computer.
