Does anyone know of any Software version of VG technology? As a long time user of VG-8, VG-99 and now SY1000, I would love a lighter, smaller version that does the same thing, i.e., a laptop I could run VG software on so I wouldn't have to haul the VG stuff around for live gigs. I would love to use my 13pin VG guitars (Godin, Taylor, and custom classical) through some kind of interface to a Windows laptop running some sort of VG technology/emulation for live playing.

  Is this even possible?

TIA,

The GP-10 is the smallest of the bunch. If you use that as an audio and midi interface, you have a lot of options. It even has individual string outputs via usb.

The GP-10 is the "gig machine" - I've played out with it several times and the guitar modeling while not quite to the level of the SY-1000 is still very good in my opinion.

If you want to have the "alt-tuning" ability of the VGs, you have to install a multi in/out audio interface in your computer, with 6 input channels at least. A "breakout-box" is also necessery, to receive the signals of each string separately. Later you have to set up your DAW (something like Reaper, Cubase, Logic etc.) on 6 audio channels, to have all the functions of a VG - but I think it would be easier and better to buy a used VG99.  ;)

A gp10 into a laptop. Then a VST host of some sort that runs IRs and pitch shifters on each individual string output.

100% agree. Since GP10 has been in my possession I have used to play and gig with friends. It's the perfect form factor. I have attached a velcro to keep the fs-7 pedals nearby with a short trs cable (yellow for style). It does all I need guitar wise and with a bit of GR300 and Wave plus occasionally OSC can play great synth solos. Moreover ALT Tunings come handy because I can play in the original key and transpose a little when needed by the singer.
