During the last month I noticed that when playing the Patch level pops up in the VG99 display at times. I immediately thought it was the GK Cable so I tested with normal input and the results were the same.
Lately it's firing in bursts then quiet then again. It happens on all patches I use.

I also explored my MIDI connections :

The VG99 MIDI OUT and MIDI IN are connected in the following way:

Audio Card MIDI OUT--> VG99 MIDI IN
VG99 MIDI OUT --> Roland JV1010 MIDI IN
Roland JV1010 MIDI THRU --> Audio Card MIDI IN

This setting allows me to :

1) Use the VG99 Editor without VG99 connected with USB Cable
2) Trigger MIDI in the Sound Module
3) Trigger MIDI in VST in the DAW (Ableton Live + Zebra)

The Patch Level pops up when the computer is off (and Audio Card is off as well) and so this should exclude MIDI as the offending tier.

It happens when computer is off and normal input is used so it should not be the 'wart' of the GK. It happens with both GK Guitars I have, GK2A and GK3.

Do you already have experience on this?

Thanks
Paolo

Usually it is the rotary encoder (knob control) gone over sensitive from internal dust build up or failure.

The fix is to either replace the pot/encoder or put up with it.

Thanks gumtown! Do you meant the jog dial (the one to select patches) or rotary control #6 (from left to right)
Is replacing possible for human beings or do you need super powers? BTW where do I get a replacement?

Try twisting the patch level knob in both directions repeatedly for a bit to see if that fixes the issue. I had a similar problem on mine years ago after not using it for several months and this resolved it for me.

It's same as any old electronics with analog potentiometers

Must spritz Caig DeOxit on the contacts once a decade

I got DeOxit. Do I need to dismantle the VG99 panel? Or it's ok from the panel?

Thanks a lot admin!

I had same issue on a VG99 I had & the contact cleaner and moving the knobs to clean them sorted it - easy fix - thankfully :-)

If you haven't attempted the repair yet, here are some things to consider:

1. Not all Deoxit is the same.  The kind you want for these pots is Deoxit Fader Lube F100L.  This has a green label and unfortunately, it's a little pricey.  It is designed for plastic contacts and doesn't have solvent in it like the D5 or D100 (red label) have.  The main problem with D5 or D100 when used in pots is it can dissolve the grease in the pot which then makes them spin too freely and they lose their nice feel.

2. I'm not sure if there is any way to get the Deoxit into these specific pots without removing them and completely disassembling them.  They look pretty well sealed but there may be some holes on the metal shaft retainer where you could inject some.  Worth a try.  Also, since the pots are more or less sealed, there is a pretty high likelihood that you could fix the problem by working the pot.

3. Also, you can go into test mode by holding the 'Page <' & 'Name/Key/BPM' buttons while powering on.  Test 6 tests the 8 encoder knobs and it will give you a pretty good visual representation of what your VG is seeing from each pot.  If a particular pot is wonky you'll see it on the display as you turn it.

Sorry I did not close the loop, immersed in some personal issues. I have done as suggested and all of a sudden it worked! THANKS SO MUCH! :)

I have same issue and my question is: did you have to dismantle the VG99 to clean the pots or can it be done without taking it apart? Thanks

I did it without dismantling any pot.
After 6 months it came back. I need to do the procedure again.
